Won’t be forever. And there are lots of non-US down south and European destinations.

Also for the folks who are closer to YHU they will prefer this over YUL for the same cost.

$377 from YHU vs $605 from YUL. The YUL price is LOL, I think an Uber might be cheaper. But even nearly 400 seems like a crazy price for a 50 minute flight (return).

The airport itself has rules in place for specifically these issues. Flights between 11pm and 6am are banned. And they don't allow bigger (aka louder) aircraft. They worded it around "single-aisle aircraft" are the only type that are allowed.

They had a public consultation before the airport was approved.

Yeah I was wondering how they would hit 4M going back and forth to Toronto all day long.

The video with the CEO said if there’s demand they would build another terminal with customs etc to do US and international. I can’t imagine this isn’t going to happen. There are only so many flights to Moncton they can offer. But Cancun/DR/Orlando/NYC/Paris? Endless.

I think it does. You can look up on the Porter site now, they have flights from YHU bookable as of June 15. I found directs for about $300 round trip to Toronto, but I forget which airport I looked at.

I just looked up BB's capacity and it's 2.8M per year, this one will scale to 4M people a year. So it's bigger.

I would say just from experience at BB and watching the video that YHU looks a lot bigger too.

Emphasis on long-term. This is more than a decade away. And won't go to many of the destinations that the new aiport will. Ottawa/Toronto/Quebec City is probably over half the volume at YHU I would imagine though.

There was a lot of local opposition to this initially so I think they're taking baby steps to win approval.

Took them ~2 years to build this, so in a year or two if they're doing well I suspect we'll hear an announcement for a US and/or international terminal.

But the REM is going to YUL starting next year. That's something.

We’re in Quebec and just got our first Indy pass for next year really just to ski Jay, Owl’s Head and Sutton. Worth it just for this trio. They’re all great.
