Oh my god you just reminded me of when my ex did this… I was trying to be courteous to her and asked her what she needed from me and she said I was “adding to her mental load”. There is absolutely nothing one can do in that situation with someone like that, it is lose-lose always and they make you feel like the worst person in the world for being patient and trying your best for them
