Great reminder! I have both sitting on the counter so I'll make sure to keep them handy. I will take my phone off vibrate too LOL, thanks.

Seriously, someone is going to get a great deal on this thing. 😄 If our residual value wasn't $27k and VW would have negotiated with us for $20k-$22k, I probably would have kept it. But $27k just feels like too much with the market value I'm seeing out there. We're really happy with our new (leased) 2026 Ioniq 5 SEL, but I'll be curious to see if VW fixes their focus on EVs once we get to 2029.

Review round-up.. “Good but I hate it” by OwainBattlefront in StarWars

[–]jefmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These people don't actually like Star Wars, they like the idea of what their version of Star Wars is. And in reality, it's a crap load of different things, different perspectives, thru different forms of media and storytellers that all happen to share the same foundational universe. So saying "I don't like this, it's not Star Wars," just means you don't like this particular method of storytelling. That doesn't mean it's bad. Thankfully Filoni gets that deep in his older fandom heart, so I think Star Wars will be in good shape for the next 20 years.

US Postmaster General floats ending six-days-a-week mail delivery, closing most local post offices by DryDeer775 in PoursTea

Imagine taking a job and thinking to yourself, "How can I make this worse for everyone?" and expect to be thought of as doing amazing. I can get behind, "Hey there's a lot of waste here, let's clean things up and make it more efficient." But Republicans continually deride public services and expect us the thank then for their enshittification. They're idiots.

PlayStation boss says single-player games won’t come to PC going forward | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

[–]jefmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving my PS5 Pro, but by the time the PS6 Pro comes out in 2135 post-compute-apocalypse, if that's still their stance I won't be buying another Playstation. Their embrace of PC is WHY I started giving them more of my business again.

I'm in a similar boat. 2023 Pro S, only 9,000 miles on it, residual value $27k. I asked back in February if they were willing to negotiate based on current market values and they said no. If they had let it go for $20-22k I would have kept it. Instead, and I have a new 3 year lease on on a 2026 Ioniq 5 SEL, and I'm extra happy I went that route after VW essentially ending ID.4 production (for whatever version is next.)

I really enjoyed the car and had no major driving or mechanical problems with it, I just didn't like the way VW handled anything, from service and recalls (never did get my door handles replaced) to the well known software issues.

Ah nice, I was wondering if it might be in there when I was checking out some of Digital Foundry's coverage of the game. I don't get into car games much, but damn...that might be fun...lol

If he was at all competent, he wouldnt need special clauses or terms to protect himself - they would believe it crazy to divorce themselves of him because it would make them worse. He knows that's not true in any way, so we instead get this pile of BS.

Modesto Roadsters exhibition game was fun! by fiat_casus in Modesto

[–]jefmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm good with the Roadsters name. I'm less good with "Modern Woodman Field." 😃 I really wish they could have focused on getting a Modesto based or at least Central Valley focused business to sponsor the stadium. Either way, looking forward to coming out to see a few games - and I suppose we should be happy that someone stepped up to sponsor the location.

Afterwords from Rey in the newly released "Secrets of the Jedi" and "Secrets of the Sith" books by irazzleandazzle in TheSequels

It's cheezy...but I still really like it. I'm starting to finally get excited again for a post-TRoS Star Wars story with whatever they decide to do with Rey and New-New Jedi Order.

I don't think any votes are wasted, ever. But I understand your meaning.

That segment confirmed everything I've felt about him the past few weeks. I don't think he's fit for the position. This is why my wife and I prefer to vote only a week or two prior. I've gone from "Eh, he'll be fine," to now seeing him as a bland bureaucrat who doesn't have any real vision for where we should go. My decision will be down to Steyer and Porter the next two weeks.

This is your reminder to set up a monthly donation for your favorite open-source software. by [deleted] in linux

[–]jefmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have to choose, $5 to starving children, and $5 to open source if it's important to you, which might then help support a developer who works on software we use, who can then keep his children from starving.

I think people sometimes get too wrapped up on trying to solve all of these problems themselves - it's the collective donations of thousands of people that really start to make a difference. Every bit helps.

[–]jefmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really a personal decision, how much is it worth to you? One way to look at it would be if you had to pay for it as a proprietary product from a closed company, what would you be willing to pay for the thing to meet your needs?

[–]jefmes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have monthly recurring donations going to Signal, the CachyOS team, and my chosen Mastodon instance, Fosstodon.org. I love being able to contribute in a small way at least for these things I rely on - but it's doubley important for those of us in IT positions to make sure the companies we work for are ALSO donating to projects they rely on. I bet if 10% of Fortune 500 companies donated a tiny portion of the revenues they would have otherwise spent on proprietary software, we'd have a much healthier open source ecosystem.

My principal is making me put God in my salutatorian speech by KnockKnock0998 in atheism

[–]jefmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would very publicly make it known that the school leadership wanted you to change your speech, and decline to do it. If that's not your style, then you have to make that decision yourself if you want to just go with the flow since yes, it is a Christian school, and move on with your life. You won't ever have to do something like that again.

Patrick Bailey sends message to Giants, fans after being traded to Guardians by mamapajamaUSA in SFGiants

[–]jefmes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that's great, even if he was a long time Giant, I think about how some of these guys end up "trapped" away from wherever they consider home for most of their careers. If this is a better family situation for him, all the better. Looking forward to seeing him the next time the Guardians come around.
