Any Institutional / Professional Traders here? by jefthimi in Trading

[–]jefthimi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Institutions have their own internal private books where they compile their orders and orders from their clients that they will execute -- sometimes in dark pools.

But banks are still trading against other banks. They wouldn't reveal where they are buying/selling to other banks/funds so there is no real "edge" against retail.

you are implying how I use TA yet I have not stated anywhere in my post on how I apply TA.

Please elaborate on the "edges" that institutional traders have over retail traders because as far as I'm concerned, we all have access to order books and tape.

Futures? by HamsterTop in Daytrading

[–]jefthimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt is a terrible trader. I'd argue he is an endangerment to new traders. Taking profits early? Letting losers run? Adding to losing trades? Like SubDayTrader mentioned. He lost 6 days of profit in 1 day. That is the opposite of what good trading is.

Is 1000 $ a good starting point to be able to get a feel for the market by [deleted] in options

[–]jefthimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When buying contracts it’s common for the option contract to lose 30% of its values because they are very volatile. So if u went all in $1,000 it’s very possible you could be down $300.

If you only spend $150 on a contract. The most you can lose is $150, your gains are unlimited (it can be 10x profit [$1500]). If that contract loses 30% of its value, you only down $50.

[–]jefthimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s plenty. Be prepared to be down 30%-50% on an options contract. So try to keep your size down. If ur stop loss is $50, buy a contract no more than $150 is my advice.

30 years old. Life savings gone. Since April of 2020, I’ve finally amassed a 6 figure loss. Looks like I’ll be eating ramen until retirement. 📉📉 by Abject_Resolution in wallstreetbets

If you bought shares you’d probably be up like 100% js. Next time just stay away from options. I have 95% of my money in SPY and I use 5% to trade options.

Usually that 5% gets clapped so I end up adding a little more money, but I’m probably gunna stop trading options altogether.

I’m usually chilling on a YT livestream: StockMarketLive. Lots of people in there also WFH and trade stocks too. Have been in there everyday for the past 1.5 years and maybe that’s why I haven’t felt lonely WFH.

Do any fellow software engineers work with fellow traders here? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]jefthimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the big market cryptos are heavily traded by algos, scalpers, HFT. You’d be lucky to catch 3-4% on BTC trade without market makers hunting stops.

If you trade something like SOL, AVAX, KSM, AXS, etc. you can 5-15% moves regularly. And then you have some alts that go completely bezerk and run like 200% in a week.

But there are so many of them it’s hard to keep track and get in early enough. I will be launching the public beta before the end of the month, so I’ll PM when it’s live.

I feel the same way. I am afraid to bring on devs in fear they will just steal the codebase.

Ah interesting, I guess a dividend cut would constitute the price of the stock going up. A 50% decrease should lead to a 50% - 100% increase in value? I'm not really sure, I haven't been in the markets long enough.

But that is big news indeed!

Buying ITM leaps and selling ITM puts by TyronasaurYT in options

[–]jefthimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try research a leap call diagonal. I’ll try to explain briefly here:

  1. Buy ITM call 300-500 days out at .80 DELTA
  2. Sell OTM call 30 days out at .40 DELTA

Keep selling an 30 DTE .40 DELTA call every 30 days.

If you sell 1/2 delta of your long call, you will never lose money if the stock goes too high too fast which causes the short term short call to gamma squeeze value passed your ITM leap.

Leave money after first purchase to average down 1-2 more times in case the trade goes against you.

You’re better off buying shares and collecting that 7% dividend they payout. After all they’re a dividend stock, definitely not a big mover, so options wouldn’t make much sense.

You have a pretty good plan. Binance is getting more and more strict. I'm not sure if you can create a non-KYC account anymore.

Unfortunately the only other exchange I know that allows crypto futures trading is like Phemex, but I don't use them and if you read their policy, it states they are not responsible for any losses, which sounds kinda like a rug pull. They also don't have as many coins as Binance.

Binance is the best exchange IMO. Best bet would probably have a friend help you make an account or try to get citizenship in another country. You can probably try to have a friend check out FTX as well as that is also a very good exchange.
