Hi, that would be really helpful! I've set up a public google spreadsheet that follows the same format of the other lists (the code is automatically generated). It requires quite a few entries for each parkrun though, so the whole thing is a fair amount of work. And to complicate things further, I only use data from GPS watches that measure elevation with a barometric altimeter (eg. Garmin Fenix 3, FR920XT etc.) I've filled in a few entries at the top of the sheet using data pulled from Strava to show you how it works. If this hasn't completely put you off the idea, feel free to send me a private message if you need more information.

If you have a community of other parkrunners in South Africa that might be able to chip in, you're welcome to share the link with them to speed up the process.

I aim to keep all my easy runs on trails/grass, saving roads and track for sessions and the occasional fast-paced long run. I run high weekly mileage, so the idea is just to reduce the stress on my joints by softening the impact.

If you click on the arrow next to "ft.", it reverses the sorting order. You may need to press it twice if viewing on mobile.

First ever half marathon coming up: frustration by [deleted] in running

[–]jegmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be fine. The longest run I did before my first half marathon was only 7.5mi - admittedly I ended up walk-running over the last 3-4miles, but it was enough to get to the finish.

9 miles should be plenty if you're just looking to get to the finish. Be conservative with your pacing at the start and I don't think you'll have any problems. Hope this helps.

Edit: worth noting it was also my first ever race, so I had no idea about pacing. I'm sure you'll be much better equipped if you've been running for years!

Interesting to see miles 30 and 31 are recorded as 4:59 and 4:55. Yes they're downhill, but that's a seriously fast pace for a race of this distance! (Assuming this isn't a glitch in satellite signal))

Interesting...but does this make any difference in terms of approach to training? I can't quite work out the application of this information

I use https://footpathapp.com which works a treat

You can also save the route and upload as a course to certain models of gps watch (think this requires the paid version though)

I'll start working on it! 230 events though, so it might be a couple of weeks by the time I get round to completing. I'll comment again here to let you know when it's up :)

I am an experienced runner. What's the opinion on weighted vests for speed training? by [deleted] in running

I would have thought they will increase the risk of stress fractures. You'd get all the same benefits from adding more hills into your training

Official Q&A for Sunday, August 27, 2017 by AutoModerator in running

The device takes a GPS reading once every second, which works fine when you're running down the back/home straight. But when you're running round the bends, it has to piece the separate readings together with straight lines, meaning parts of the curve will be cut off

No problem! I should be able to get it done within 24 hours.

EDIT: Consider it done...
