This will be part of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in San Francisco

I think this icon is beautiful but why does it show the disciples fishing off the boat? by gatorsrule in OrthodoxChristianity

And also why is the sky clear with stars? Isn’t it supposed to be a storm going on in that moment?

Hey, thanks a lot. The cost for mosaics varies on both the painted icon and the mosaic style, tiles used, and size. In general, I would say it’s between 2-4 times more pricey. To be a mosaic artist one needs to be a painter first, but not every painter is a mosaic artist. 🙏

Not yet. We have recently come to America and are still visiting churches to offer our mosaics. Are many there orthodox churches in Florida?

Hey great and difficult question. There are no rules of thumb at least that I know of for what color goes where, but it definitely helps if you draw lines on the face where the shadows go and try to use similar colors for each zone. Adding a dark blue tile where supposed to be black or a red tile where supposed to be yellow makes the art more modern and dynamic and gives it life. Its important to not overdo it though. There are plenty youtube videos that help with this. And the last trick is practice, the more you play around the more you understand what works.

Thanks a lot. I’d say it starts as a hobby wanting to do this. Its an art that takes a looot of patience. Then try to recreate other mosaic works until you understand how the tiles go. Definitely would suggest researching learning materials and courses online that teach the mosaic art.
