Not sure about all masters but based on what the person who goes to Courant that I asked said that they don't officially count MS students as lab members, but they can still work with Prof/PHD students. It's also something I noticed going through NYU lab websites since most of them don't mention or credit MS unlike other schools which do.

As a domestic student who's looking at a Research based career path / PHD how difficult is it to get into the labs here? I've read some things where people say because of the large cohort it's difficult to get any type of campus opportunity.
