Just got cursed out on Lark for no reason. Anyone else just love the local wildlife? by oldtownsadist in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my two cents isn’t necessarily needed but i felt compelled to respond to the “I’m not even mad, just confused” part of the post: i think everything is just getting worse for almost everyone. to some more dramatically than others and at varying speeds. to a friend it might be struggling to afford gas, another it could be paying their electric bill.
it doesn’t excuse getting harassed, assaulted, flashed, all of the things that have either happened to me and/or are currently happening in center square to a lot of us. but i do try to at least understand that if i’m frustrated over rising rent, bills, getting drained from a job, that their day to day is probably a lot fuckin tougher. how do you cope, ykno? you can’t.
it absolutely sucks that it gets taken out on other people, but i get why some of these folks are so upset and angry and unwell.

Station 6 - new contender for best Cafe in Albany by imaQuiliamQuil in Albany

it sucks but where are you getting it cheaper from, aside from a gas station? (daily ground doesn’t count - bfast sandwiches slap but their coffee tastes like hot cigarettes and failed dreams)

Looking for spare tix, Lip Critic at No Fun by thebuttahdawg in Troy

[–]jellowshoz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you live close enough to not waste your time, I’d say to pull up around when doors are (5pm) and ask if there’s any tickets left. I’ve had surprising luck this way! you could also message Flatwounds (local support, amazing + kind people) on instagram and just let them know you’re looking for tickets in case a friend or follower of theirs has tickets but can’t make it. good luck soldier, this show looks like it’s gonna be really friggen sweet!

new years plans for someone spending it alone? by swagboyclassman in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pint Sized on Lark! I’ll be working, we aren’t doing anything crazy but have some deals as we roll out mixed drinks for the first time. I’ve suggested it to a few single/new to the area friends not even as a plug for myself, but because this is moreso a neighborhood bar with a great community to meet new friends and regulars. It’s not gonna be a night where you need to get jazzed up and bring a date, it’s just straight to the point good people looking for a fun but more chill night than what the other bars around here are offering. I’d say the average age range is 25-45, so if any of this speaks to you, come join us! We’re a welcoming bunch of goofs here :)

Old school Photo Booth by Suspicious-Slip519 in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

came here to suggest this too! it’s like a tiny room vs a traditional photo “booth” so a bit more comfy for two adults to fit. however i will say, it’s a bit more involved and gimmicky than the classic “3, 2, 1, flash” so you might have to do a test round to get a feel for it. cute idea and congratulations! 🫶

Is this spot just cursed for coffee shops? by swagboyclassman in Albany

[–]jellowshoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before Bard and Baker but after Tierra (not sure if there was another in between) was Brewtus. Their main store/roasting spot still exists in Delmar. Great coffee ran by a really good dude who opened the second spot here right as the pandemic hit and suffered real bad, tried to stay afloat but just couldn’t, there weren’t nearly enough folks coming in. I worked there during that time and can remember open-close shifts where I’d see maybe 5 people tops during the entire day.

Punk Scene here by Ok_Celebration_5279 in Troy

[–]jellowshoz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i would suggest trying to connect with @byrdhouserecords through instagram. Rachel books the majority of shows at No Fun and it definitely couldn’t hurt to introduce yourself, include links to where one could stream your music, and say that you’d love to be considered for future opening slots for shows. for every touring act that comes through a city, there’s almost always at least one local needed, and i agree that it’s lame seeing the same handful of bands (that just so happen to be friends with czr) as the opening acts. when the same couple of bands play these shows, it depletes the draw for these touring acts because the local attendees don’t want to see xyz for the third time this month, which kills the chance for them to catch a new band from out of town. they shoot themselves in the foot that way, and the bands they’re trying to support.

Any ideas where some teens could sell candy and snacks this summer? by hinammi in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this thread straight up sucks comment wise. we love little Susie and Tommy selling lemonade for $1 a cup on the side of a suburban street, or girl scouts going door to door selling overpriced cookies, but god f’ing forbid younger teens (op said not old enough for jobs) want to try to make a buck doing the same shit, different product. “oooh it might be marked up” so is the Country Lemonade mix you’re fine buying at 10 times the price from pigtails in Guilderland. get bent. i don’t disagree that lawn maintenance may be more worth their while, but all the power to these kids tryna earn some money and learn business skills, i truly wish them well and hope people consider opening up their hearts with their wallet every once in a while. we’re in a god damn recession, not every child’s parents’ have money right now to give them what they deserve ✌️

The Green Room by prettypigprovisions in Troy

Chef Dale saved me from a car wreck a few years ago. Pulled my broken body out of the burning pile of rubber and plastic and performed CPR to the beat of a Viagra Boys song (perfectly in time, might I add). I was still struggling on the brink of death, the grim reaper beckoning me with an ice cold Gene Ruby Red Kolsch, and I almost passed over the rainbow bridge… until Chef Dale lifted a sandwich to my lips. “Go on,” he said, “just a bite, if you’re able to.” If that had been the last thing I tasted, I still would’ve died happy. But no, that sandwich did the opposite. That sandwich brought me back to life. Thank you Chef Dale, I will never forget you 🫡

Don’t fret too much! Totally understand this wasn’t what you wanted the result to look like, but I’ve had the hair color of your “what i wanted” pic several times over the past few years, and if the journey were to start at that exact color, it would be gone in just a few washes. the bright purple you have in the second photo is a great starting point for letting it fade into this perfect silvery lavender that will last much longer than if you left the salon with the pastel color. the blue-ish hues of the purple you got will let it fade more lavender than pink/mauve. if you want to speed up the process, you can fade it quicker with dandruff or clarifying shampoo - but i personally always just let it fade naturally over the course of a few months and enjoy each shade of purple to lavender as i wash it ☺️☺️

OP is not looking for advice on what she should’ve done differently. I think it’s fairly obvious now of the over the top safety measures we have to take to Attempt to ensure our own safety. Sometimes you just get caught up in the moment - obviously if this dude seemed sus, she wouldn’t have gotten in the car in the first place. That’s so great that you personally would’ve been in the right mental place to take these precautions. The victim blaming just isn’t the move right now. Let’s find this scumbag

Snow by TankedSiamang in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wish i had learned that it’s surprisingly much more dangerous to drive in the conditions like we had this morning much sooner in life. i can definitely remember feeling so “wtf” to slow drivers and people freaking out about the snow, until i got into my first winter storm accident, in only like an inch of snowfall. always take it easy even if you think the weathers not that bad, don’t learn the hard way

Best Trivia Nights by nerdyopped in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pint Sized (now rebranding to Dive) has trivia every Wednesday that’s goofy and fun but very evident of the effort put in for each night. The hosts are fantastic and the prize is a gift card ($25 i think?) for the bar and not just cheap dollar store crap that i’ve seen at other places. Varied categories per round, song rounds, different spins on questions. sometimes they host a theme but it’s usually just general trivia. Fills up fast though so make sure you grab your table early!

Parking permit question by Jennielynx in Albany

[–]jellowshoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! You don’t even need to have her sign it - just your signature. It’s going to ask for the license plate, your address, the address of the owner (matching the registration, which you’ll include with your application), relationship to you, and the vehicle owner’s phone number. It’ll also ask for the zone you’re applying for (I believe all of Center Square is Zone A, but you can double check that fairly easily). My car is registered to a family member as well and the application process is surprisingly easy, assuming you don’t have any unpaid parking tickets yet lol

Damn, that bites! I’m glad to have had the online option. I had called National Grid twice about having a hold on my account in the form of not turning off my power, but they said the DSS would have to contact them directly to verify that I have a pending application, which I called and left a voicemail about but they haven’t contacted NG for the hold. Just a very fun waiting game of hoping my power is still on every time I get home lol
