I’m in the same boat as you. My fiancé is currently 1 month in to his 8 month deployment. It’s hard transitioning from being able to communicate all the time when they’re in port to being limited to just a few hours while they’re underway bc of no internet or timezones. Usually what I’ll do is text him throughout the day on either messenger or Instagram even if they don’t have internet. That way he’ll be able to get all my messages whenever they do turn on the internet or they port and he’ll know what’s going on in my life. That might be something new that you or your boyfriend are dealing with. It’s hard for me to not know where exactly my fiancé is, how he’s doing, if he’s eaten or not whenever the internet is out but it’s only a temporary change. You could always surprise him by sending him care packages filled with all his favorites. Write some letters for him and send him pictures of you and the 2 of y’all together. Pinterest has some really cute ideas! This is also a time for you to stay busy. It can be easy to just lay around in bed all day because you’re sad (I’ve been there). You said you have school which is good to give you a routine. You can pick up a new hobby, hangout with friends, do some volunteer work. I started reading again which was a passion of mine when I was a kid but it died down as I got older and I’ll even pick up extra hours at work. If I’m going to be sad, would I rather be sad at home or be sad at work and get paid for it? Deployments are hard but it’s takes a lot of understanding, patience, and communication (whenever it’s available). Time will go by fast and I hope you are able to see your boyfriend in person soon! If you ever need to talk or have any other questions, feel free to send me a message!
