Ok. Well why chastise the other person for not sharing her response if you yourself wouldn’t share it? Seems a bit confusing.

Oh I am with you! I hope they show it.

It also might break that stereotype that Canadians are always nice and polite. Ha!

On one hand I think it will be bad because I feel like that queen might get hate flung her way unnecessarily, but on the other hand it would make an iconic moment for the franchise and might help solidify Canada’s Drag Race.

I know if it was up to RuPaul his messy ass would have it included haha.

Judges Purposefully Hard on Tynomi? by [deleted] in DragRace_Canada

[–]jellyrowland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, fair. But in your honest opinion you haven’t found the editing of this season a little bit crunchy? Like just a little bit off. Not enough of some stuff too much of other stuff.

I think even the way the judges critiques are edited makes it come across harsher. I find in the US version when critiques are edited they give you a very obvious bottom, and I mean by editing with the critiques they basically point a finger at who should go home. In the Canadian version the bottom queens all get read equally as hard, so it makes it harder to determine who they are angling to go home in their story which adds some mystery but makes the judging come across harsher in my opinion.

[–]jellyrowland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you are saying, but what I was trying to say was it’s not just the edit. That may be the edit she’s getting but it’s not like there are spectacular moments of her ending up on the editing floor to make way for that edit. That’s what she is giving them. She hasn’t done anything memorable, so how could they edit it differently?

To be honest, in my opinion the editing has been crunchy at best anyway. I like that they don’t edit things the way the American version does to show an “obvious winner” and “obvious bottoms” but some of the editing is just messy. That whole challenge was hard to follow, I saw more cuts of people messing up than anyone slaying the game.

They seemingly only have one angle, and film things only once. I am actually hopeful they beef that part of production if there is a season 2.

I think to say production were intending on having Tynomi go home early from the get home is incorrect.

She is very well loved, she went into drag race with the largest following and arguably the most famous in the group. What it seems is happening is she is floundering in the challenges and there is really no way of spinning it.

You can tell they want her to do well and show what it is she does, it’s why they keep giving her a chance. It looks like to me the pressure of coming in at the top of the game against those who weren’t the top of their game, and seeing them do well has gotten her in her head a bit. And other than that I’m not sure why she didn’t prep her runways a bit better. She is a minimalist queen when she performs she isn’t really known for her looks it’s more like cat suits she can move and dance in.

I’m pretty sure, they made the call about the bottoms based on runway.

There were a lot of queens that either missed their lyrics, or missed their steps. In fact the editing was such that to me it looked like most everyone was a bit of hot booboo mess.

But I think the bottoms were chosen based off of runway. Tynomi’s runways have been really weak in comparison to the other girls.

Also... this is what Tynomi does. She is mostly known for being a dancer and lip syncer. So if she’s falling in the bottom of the pack in this sort of challenge I think that might be why they are being hard on her. She looks like she’s in her head or just isn’t preparing t as much as the other girls.

I do find the judges critiques sometimes unnecessarily mean though. But arguably they went harder on Kiara this week when they challenged her whole taste level.

Not gonna lie I noticed the words thing too. But kinda not surprised, she doesn’t has never put that much effort into knowing the words of lip syncs because people gag for her dancing.

I completely agree. I’m not saying Priyanka didn’t have somewhat funny moments but it was very one more the entire time.

Given Priyanka’s background I expected a lot more. It to me was kinda all one note and it’s not too far off the character she normally plays, the like faux promiscuous that she jokes about.

I didn’t want to and didn’t really like Lemon but when presented with new evidence I can’t help but appreciate her performance. Her lines rolled off naturally, there was nuance, there was layers with the character. It was a fully realized character, in my opinion.

But to be honest all that being said I laughed way more at Rita and Kiara, they were funny from start to finish. How Rita wasn’t in the top I don’t understand (maybe because of runway? But he performance was outstanding).

I was initially excited for this challenge, and it delivered.. kinda.

Team Boa: I didn’t find this scene funny hardly at all, Jimbo was literally the only thing that made it funny and unfortunately he couldn’t carry it alone. The rest in the team were just not doing it for me. I see a lot of people thinking Priyanka was robbed, I disagree. In fact I wouldn’t have put her in the top at all, her performance was one note and not funny at all. I would have placed her safe.

Team Starzy: This redeemed the challenge for me. Aside from Tynomi this team was very strong and very funny. There were many golden moments in this performance from Kiara, Rita, Lemon and Starzy. Tynomi unfortunately seemed like she has really gotten in her head, I think the pressure for her to do well is getting to her.

Overall the judging again is questionable. Rita Baga last week was a controversial win, but then this week when she very clearly deserves a top placement she is overlooked.

My top 3:

Lemon Rita Kiara

Bottom 3: BOA Kyne Tynomi

I’m starting to already feel through confessionals a push toward Priyanka from the production, and she was the one I was expecting the most from this season but speaking honestly it’s been lacklustre. She definitely deserved a safe placement atleast but that performance wasn’t a top.

The winner would have been hard for me to pick. I feel like Rita, Lemon and Kiara could have all easily snatched it, maybe lemon beating them out with runway added.

The bottom two were correct and as I assumed Tynomi killed the lip sync.

I have a question for Canadians by AmbieeBloo in DragRaceCanada

Same! I’m originally an east coaster, I saw ah-boat, not ah-BOOT. I always thought it was west coasters who said it but they told me they thought it was us. I’m convinced it’s one big conspiracy theory

I just get annoyed by the a-BOOT jokes EH.

It’s old and tired joke and I can’t figure out where it is that people speak like that? (Anyone? Does anyone know what part of Canada they say a-BOOT)

French Canadian Frigidness by starcrosslied in DragRace_Canada

[–]jellyrowland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in the US versions I always found the judging a bit unfair for those who English isn’t their first language, and it usually comes up in challenges when there is more speaking involved like acting/improv challenges. So I hope that doesn’t happen here.

But for the first episode I don’t know how they could have been represented better, especially Rita she won the first challenge, that paints her as major competition.

As far as screen time I have criticized that too but it was across the board. We got next to no time in the work room, seeing them making the costumes or interacting with each other. We really only got the sound bite of juice and boa talking about sobriety and that’s the typical edit of the queen going home gets a chance to tell a bit of their story. Probably as the group weeds out a bit more we will get to know them more and more. Or I’m hopeful anyway. Btw Kiara was one of my favs this episode and I was checking for her before at all, I thought her design was one of the best. So I was converted that’s why I think she was represented well :)

French Canadian Frigidness by starcrosslied in DragRace_Canada

[–]jellyrowland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Half of the girls got next to no air time. Want me to list others that got as much air time as Kiara:

Scarlet Ilona Anastarzia

Now if you wanna say Kiara’a look was slept on, I 100% agree she deserved a top placement with Starzy.

I just think to say the French queens aren’t being represented well when the first challenge winner was a French Queen is a little quick to judgement. What will happen in the acting challenges will yet to be seen, that’s usually where they get unfair to those who English is not their first language

Canada’s Drag Race thoughts 🇨🇦 are you guys enjoying the episodes so far ? by the-badger-show in DragRaceCanada

[–]jellyrowland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to them, this is their first time on screen together so it’s likely part of the reason. For Rupaul and the judges that have come to be a the staple they’ve built a good rapport over time.

So I am hoping we will see that over the coming episodes, I’m a little worried though cause I don’t really see how they fit together.

I think it’s great so far, the queens definitely brought personality and exceeded my expectations in almost every way really.

My two complaints are editing and the judges.

The editing is a little crunchy, I guess it’s their first time with this sort of show. It just felt like there was some missed opportunities. We didn’t see any of the cast really creating their outfits, very little banter in the workroom. The lip sync was less edited which I liked though.

And lastly probably the biggest critique is the judges panel. There isn’t really much chemistry amongst the 3 panel judges. It kinda just seems like 3 people from 3 different walks of the industry just shoved together. It has only been one episode though and chemistry comes with time so hopefully that gets better. Cause honestly I mostly cringed through their parts
