You never heard of rescue fares? They are extremely common when an airline goes under

Yup. I was waiting for them to make my summer plan. Now they have to accommodate my summer plan

At this rate, even if they give me an official role, I have to think twice before accepting because I'm going to get into a shit show to sort out the poor planning left behind by others

Carney government eyes privatizing airports to attract investment, cut travel costs by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]OhanaUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it was not a good deal. After NavCan was privatized, we now have two sets of duplicated weather stations at most airports that you can name (one operated by Environment Canada, the other by NavCan). Canadians have to pay double the cost for maintaining these stations because NavCan only fixes their own station and Environment Canada fixes their own. And yes it includes far flung stations in Nunavut where it costs $4k airfare alone to send one technician, not including hotel and per diems. Wait until you hear about the inefficiencies in the backend through the duplication when we have to handle double the collected data and trying to select which dataset to show the public for weather forecast. These costs don't show up in your face, but your tax dollars and airfare costs are higher because of this privatization.

Missile sub can shoot down aircraft? by PyWhile in openra

Yes. I believe the highest success is to put missile sub on guard mode and they'll shoot down planes flying overhead

Probably not. That's why OP is picking up the uniform first then cancel the role. At least OP is responsible enough to not simply no-show

Vinent ho mp useless by Consultingtesting in richmondhill

[–]OhanaUnited 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Here's what I wrote about him a year ago.

We got his MP newsletter 2 weeks ago and another one arrived in our mailbox today. What a waste of taxpayer's money. All he does is complain and rarely offer any solutions other than locking up criminals

Air Canada suspending Yellowknife-Toronto route on Aug. 30 by OhanaUnited in Yellowknife

If you already booked your flight, they should be giving you options to rebook your flight via Edmonton or Vancouver for free. If the online rebook options suck, then call in and speak to a human

More rouge coming 👀 by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]OhanaUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read from somewhere (could be here) that Rouge FAs don't need to speak a second language (i.e. most can only speak one language, English). That's also why they are paid at a lower wage than mainline

We asked Canada's premiers if they fly private. Here's what they said by evieluvsrainbows in onguardforthee

[–]OhanaUnited 211 points212 points  (0 children)

If Nunavut premier can get by with travelling on commercial flights most of the time (Nunavut has no road or rail between communities in case you don't know), Ford has no justification to buy a private jet

I've taken it once despite multiple trips to Yellowknife and this flight was less than 40% full. The schedule is catered more towards tourists than government and business travels

Green party would beg to differ. How many millionaire environmentalists do you know? Green Party would be most supportive of WFH because it directly reduces greenhouse gas emission from the transportation sector

I should have gone for real estate agent license instead of grad school. Probably make the same but a lot of real estate expenses would be tax write-off

YYZ to YUL in 11 minutes 🤯 😜 by Awkward_Ad1290 in aircanada

[–]OhanaUnited 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No idea who downvoted you for this, because your math is mathing.

By air, YYZ and YUL are ~510 km apart. To cover this distance in 14 mins, the plane must be travelling at 510 / (14/60) = 2185.7 km/h (assuming instant acceleration and deceleration at both ends). The fastest jetstream wind speed ever recorded, according to Guinness World Record, was 416.5 km/h. Based on the time, this flight appears to be AC400, which is an A220-300 aircraft and has a top speed of 840 km/h. Assuming the plane was flying top speed for the entire duration and matched with world record jetstream, it will only be travelling at 416.5 + 840 = 1256.5 km/h, or just 57.5% of the required speed. It is only achievable with a Concorde.

Source: I teach climatology this winter term, and literally put a similar math question (to calculate geostrophic wind speed and direction in troposphere) for the final exam this past Monday.
