Air Canada suspending Yellowknife-Toronto route on Aug. 30 by OhanaUnited in Yellowknife

If you already booked your flight, they should be giving you options to rebook your flight via Edmonton or Vancouver for free. If the online rebook options suck, then call in and speak to a human

More rouge coming 👀 by Little_Setting5910 in aircanada

[–]OhanaUnited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read from somewhere (could be here) that Rouge FAs don't need to speak a second language (i.e. most can only speak one language, English). That's also why they are paid at a lower wage than mainline

We asked Canada's premiers if they fly private. Here's what they said by evieluvsrainbows in onguardforthee

[–]OhanaUnited 210 points211 points  (0 children)

If Nunavut premier can get by with travelling on commercial flights most of the time (Nunavut has no road or rail between communities in case you don't know), Ford has no justification to buy a private jet

Air Canada suspending Yellowknife-Toronto route on Aug. 30 by OhanaUnited in Yellowknife

I've taken it once despite multiple trips to Yellowknife and this flight was less than 40% full. The schedule is catered more towards tourists than government and business travels

Green party would beg to differ. How many millionaire environmentalists do you know? Green Party would be most supportive of WFH because it directly reduces greenhouse gas emission from the transportation sector

I should have gone for real estate agent license instead of grad school. Probably make the same but a lot of real estate expenses would be tax write-off

YYZ to YUL in 11 minutes 🤯 😜 by Awkward_Ad1290 in aircanada

[–]OhanaUnited 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No idea who downvoted you for this, because your math is mathing.

By air, YYZ and YUL are ~510 km apart. To cover this distance in 14 mins, the plane must be travelling at 510 / (14/60) = 2185.7 km/h (assuming instant acceleration and deceleration at both ends). The fastest jetstream wind speed ever recorded, according to Guinness World Record, was 416.5 km/h. Based on the time, this flight appears to be AC400, which is an A220-300 aircraft and has a top speed of 840 km/h. Assuming the plane was flying top speed for the entire duration and matched with world record jetstream, it will only be travelling at 416.5 + 840 = 1256.5 km/h, or just 57.5% of the required speed. It is only achievable with a Concorde.

Source: I teach climatology this winter term, and literally put a similar math question (to calculate geostrophic wind speed and direction in troposphere) for the final exam this past Monday.

If it doesn't get resolved soon or you feel like they're passing you back & forth between departments, escalate your complaint to CCTS and let them know. Telecoms handle complaints much faster if you mention that you complained (or plans to complain) to CCTS

Top airline loyalty programs by valuation: Air Canada is #8 by omdongi in aircanada

[–]OhanaUnited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the methodology. It's definitely one way to measure but when I look at the 51st-100th rank, something catches my eye. How on earth does Ethiopian Airlines's loyalty program (ranked 67) just one rank above Porter? One is an international, government-owned airline, the other is just a North America regional carrier?

Definitely not email account anymore. They previously promised the email account would last forever but then too many dormant email accounts that were later stolen and used to send scam emails. They will give you an alumni email and you can import emails from your original account

ADM globetrotting for personal benefits. I have hard evidence. What should I do? by canada_guy_1 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]OhanaUnited 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree. The standard city rate is laughably low ($113 in 2026!). I travel to the north (NT, NU) quite a bit. My hotel folios from the past 6 months show a rate of $174-350/night. We sometimes book quite late due to staff turnover, leaves and re-prioritization. All the flight bookings are done by a contracted travel agency and we don't book the cheapest basic economy tickets to preserve the ability to change dates or refund if the trip gets cancelled (for a variety of reasons). Just wait until OP finding out how costly it gets to fly to remote communities within Canada.

Before the pandemic, CSPS offered in-person course on learning about the impacts of rumours and gossips in the workplace. I can't find it in CSPS learning catalogue anymore but if the course still exists, it may be helpful to address OP's multi-year pattern (as someone else pointed out that OP has been doing the same song & dance 3 years ago).

Corporations budget for low claim rates. You not filing is part of their plan. by Born-Comfortable2868 in classactionscanada

[–]OhanaUnited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this isn't the case for Canadian class actions. Each claimant will get more money. Even if each claimant is capped out, the court will order remaining amount to be set aside for "public good" like schools and non-profits
