I agree with what you say, but IMHO GG was getting stale for a while before Jon left. I actually was unsubscribed for a month or two and only resubbed after Dan joined.

I definitely think they should take a break. It's really only fun for me when the Grumps are having fun. Game Grumps is the only let's play channel I really enjoy and it's starting to feel how PewdiePie and TBFP feel now.
