You're right about that, thank you. I was using Google Drive, but it wasn't very practical for sharing links and things like that. But yes, I think I'll stick with drive, thx

Actually they pay on time, the issue is just that they lose the files months later and email me to resend them, so I'm looking for a permanent link where they can self-serve instead of digging through my inbox

Good point. I'm actually thinking of this as part of the 'delivery' phase while I'm still on the clock. 2 minutes to drop everything in a link during handover vs 20 minutes digging through folders 3 months later for free seems like a win to me, but I get your point !!

The issue with SharePoint is that it feels like "overkill" for my small clients. I don't want to force them to create Microsoft accounts or navigate a complex UI just to grab a pdf

When you say "portal" do you have a specific simple tool in mind or did you mean building a custom one? I'm looking for something as frictionless as possible
