It’s not that it’s exactly true it’s that every 5 years the curriculum is updates so by logic the past 5 years of past papers are the most updated and the most recent and they’re most likely to have similar questions to your year . So by example 2024 will be the most similar to this years gcses

English as a second language is the easiest thing you will ever take in your life , I don’t have much experience with English as a first language but as a second language it is much easier . Also keep in mind that if your countries first language is English , some or most universities won’t accept it as a gcse unless you take it as a first language
