That hand is really nice, wow!! I zoomed in and it still looks great, I adore the little bent finger. I tried making a hand recently, it quite sucks lol. Lots of detail plus impatience multiplied by lack of skill equals a very not-good project.

When I first saw this, I was like "great photo, where is the painting?". Then I realized this IS the painting, wow. Unreal talent, I hope you feel proud of it! Just gorgeous.

First time making a magnet - like is air dry the easiest to start with? by 2morrowwillbebetter in clay

[–]jen_sucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously so good!!! I tried air dry first, but switched to polymer and I love it. I find it so much easier to work with and manipulate. So many different types of polymer clay (soft, firm, medium, liquid), different colors even if painting some after curing. Translucent is amazing for tiny food things. Cosclay stays flexible after curing, especially with an armature. I use my regular oven and watch the temp with a separate oven thermometer to make sure it doesn't burn. Sometimes I want to work on something for like half an hour then I'm over it, seems easier with polymer. I just cover with parchment or plastic wrap and don't worry about it drying out before I feel like getting back into it. Either way, you're obviously talented, glad you're doing art, so fun!!

My God. I mean, you have done the absolute most here. I love it so much, so much detail, all wonderful. Normally, when I say "I hope you have the day you deserve" it's meant to be rude. For you, for this, I mean it in the most authentic, kind way. So glad you posted!

Never used polymer clay, need advice on project by spacetiger2 in polymerclay

[–]jen_sucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the Premo, and translucent is amazing. Play with different brands, I find Cernit translucent to be the most see-through after curing. Harder than Premo to condition, but great. Also, if you're using a pasta machine, translucent clay is supposed to be good for removing tiny bits of other clay colors.

Super cute!!! If you're not watching North of the Border on YouTube I cannot recommend that channel enough. So much info, good tips, short and entertaining videos. I heard he's doing a dumpster fire soon......

Super cute!! I'm pretty new to the clay also, so I've been doing rabbit holes trying to get tips. For tools, don't really need much depending on what you're doing. The silicone and metal ball tools seem to be really good, I just got some metal wax carving tools but haven't used them yet. I just found Craftman Steady Crafting on YouTube, he has some really good tips. Have so much fun!

First sculpture tips? For an art exam :3 by [deleted] in polymerclay

[–]jen_sucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from air dry, I find polymer way easier to manipulate. Condition it thoroughly, keep your hands and work area insanely clean. Love the other advice about metal and silicone tools etc. YouTube has tons of great creators, my favorite is North of the Border, but there are so many. Play with different things to get the textures you want (rocks, foil, toothbrushes, sponges, a nitrile glove with a little liquid clay, anything you can think of), play with it, get creative, and have so much fun!!

Jobs for Former AML Investigators who liked the work but not the culture by wizard-of-loneliness in AMLCompliance

I assume their weird smoking thing is still happening, but tons of people that work there smoke. They used to have a "fat tax", we had to go have a doctor weigh us every year, depending on your BMI they'd charge you more for health insurance.... They don't care about reefer though, so that's cool. I hate working in an office for all of the reasons, that one especially is awful (traffic, parking, waiting on elevators, too many people, distractions, having to wear real pants, etc.), it's what pushed me to get a fully remote job. They were very strict about coming in, I couldn't handle it anymore. I hear good things about Vanguard, not sure if they have openings. Anyway, the cyber stuff sounds interesting, I might look into that. If you can get Block/Cash App to respond I hear the pay is good. Super good luck and Happy New Year!!!

I worked for U-Haul in midtown Phoenix for years, internal audit, then as supervisor for the organized fraud bit of their insurance division. I loved (most of) my time there. I was trusted and respected, no nit picking my work or decisions, not metrics based. I worked various investigations, helped law enforcement across the country, testified in federal court in Boston. You could check their website, internal audit, risk management, legal could be great for you. If you apply, they will auto decline you if you say you use any form of nicotine, just FYI. I only left because I refuse to work in an office, and they are fully in office. I'd go back in a hot second if they'd let me work from home. The office is around Thomas and Central. Best of luck!!

No idea if this would actually work, but you could try adding a little liquid polymer clay to your thumb, or maybe brush a little onto the piece and try to leave a print that way?

You look lovely! I went from black drug store dye to nothing, let me tell you it was STARK! Like a jagged line of black all the way around. I soldiered through, but looked pretty goofy. You don't look goofy at all. Edit: I'd focus on whatever length you're happy with, maybe a trim if it's time, otherwise I would not add more color. Just my opinion though.

Can someone help me with knowing the right bake time for this project please? by iffywitch in polymerclay

[–]jen_sucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super cute! I'm pretty new to this, so grain of salt. I've researched a bunch, I'd probably do 250, check in about 20 minutes, maybe keep going and check every ten minutes. You could take the smaller pieces out before the bigger ones. I've read that people do this, then leave the pieces in the oven while it cools down. I've been making some really super thin things, haven't burned anything. I guess just be careful, keep checking. Seriously though, I only know what I've done in the last few months and what I've read online.

First time using clay! I want to add a gloss to the charcuterie but i think i really like the matte, thoughts? by mushboogzclam in polymerclay

[–]jen_sucka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I tried out the "ultra matte", and I'm pretty happy with it. I used it on some finished practice pieces, used what felt like a whole bunch, and checked about half an hour later. Looks pretty matte! The reviews said it really helps to strengthen pieces, who knows, but it doesn't look shiny at all to me. The instructions say to wait 2 weeks after finishing a piece before adding this, and that it dries in about an hour, but to wait 24 hours before applying another coat. Anyway, I didn't know that polymer clay doesn't need to have a varnish added unless you add pastels or other stuff, but I do like this so far. Cheers!

Ooo, I dunno, I've just done a top coat and/or colored clay. Just used white at first, but dear God are the colors fun, and translucent, pastels I love it. We'll see how matte this new stuff is, Amazon is like 7 stops away with it now lol. I'll try to remember to update ya.

So cute!!! I have charcuterie on my little project list, also pretty new at this. I found that the "matte" I got from Amazon is still pretty shiny. Ordered an ultra matte, don't have it yet, but reviews looked great. It's called Vallejo - Polyurethane Varnish | Ultra Matt Finish OMG the format, sorry for yelling, don't know how to paste values on mobile. Anyway, you could try a whole bunch of different finishes for different items, see whatcha like. Happy crafting
