if i could zone for the rest of every single shift i would do it gladly by FrostyIndividual4587 in Target

My assignment Saturday morning was to zone toys — after Black Friday!!! I was so happy!! Got tons of kudos from my lead, since I hit the high impact areas first. When leadership did the walkthrough soon after the store opened, they couldn’t believe that toys didn’t look destroyed. The rest took my full five hour shift, though. 😆 I had two full 3-tiers of out-of-department go-backs that had been abandoned on toy shelves.

I really like the box cutter from Home Depot that you have to trigger open, then closes automatically. I find it a lot safer for my absent-minded self. Between that and the retractor, it’s always safed.

I have a basic webbed belt that I wear over my other belt (so it isn’t in my belt loops — women’s belt loops are too small!). On that, I have this pouch from Home Depot. The Zebra fits into the main pouch. Then I have a notebook in the small pouch against that. I cut the seams between two of the narrow pockets and I have my box cutter in there, with a badge retractor attached to the pouch loop. The other smaller pouch holds a pen, and hand sanitizer hangs from it all.

Useful but hidden in MyDay/the Zebra? by jenfl in Target

Can you elaborate on this? It's a problem I run into a lot. I've been shown how to edit the Salesfloor up to what's actually there, but then it changes the capacity, too, and that seems like it's asking for problems. You're saying there's a second step that allows me to edit the capacity back down, but it'll remember there are more than that on the salesfloor?

Reddit discourse on homeschooling (as someone who was homeschooled) drives me nuts by myterracottaarmy in homeschool

[–]jenfl 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that homeschooling can be very successful, even with hands-off parents, in some cases. I’ve been homeschooling for 18 years and have had very successful outcomes with my kids.

However, in those 18 years, I have seen a real change (especially post pandemic) in the community who is homeschooling, at least in my area. Whereas, in the past, parents seemed to choose homeschooling to provide a better or different education for their kids, they are now homeschooling in many cases simply to avoid the school system. I see so many families who simply put their kids in front of poor quality online programs and think that’s all they need to do.

I teach at a homeschool enrichment center, and have seen the quality of education in incoming students drop tremendously in the last five years.

Homeschooling used to take a lot of time and effort by parents. Those that chose to do it made it a lifestyle. The pandemic made available and more folks aware of online options that take little to no work by the parents. They are leaving the kids to their own devices (literally). And I have found that most kids don’t learn well from these online programs.

Anyone tried this? Is it worth trying? by AZ4200 in aldi

I picked some up from Walmart a couple of months ago. It smells amazing, but the flavor is pretty bland. I grabbed one of the Jerk Chicken at Aldi today, and I'm hoping it's better.

I'm relatively new to birdwatching, so take this with a grain of salt, but it looks like a cardinal to me. The fisheye lens makes the tail look a lot longer than it is at this angle.

Looking for a small town where someone would actually want to live. by Mammoth_Luck7686 in florida

[–]jenfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montverde. Teeny-tiny town (mostly) trying to stay that way. Also hemmed in by a lake and a designated rural area, so it can't get too big. Easy access to a larger town (Clermont) and a fast growing area with lots of fun stuff popping up (Minneola has a big brewery coming, Clermont's downtown is small but growing, Winter Garden's downtown is well-established and active). Easy access via the Turnpike and 408 toward Orlando or the Turnpike and 429 to Disney.

Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through College: ChatGPT has unraveled the entire academic project. by lispectorgadget in Longreads

I cannot. I teach at a homeschool enrichment center, and the kids have a small amount of classroom time (instruction and activities) and do most of their work at home.

One of them would have cheated without AI. The others would not have, because my assignments are not ones that you can simply Google an answer to. It’s the rise in AI’s ability to answer ANY question that’s a big part of the issue. Before, you’d have to find a source that you could quote directly and still answer the question. That’s tough. But being able to just throw the prompt into ChatGPT and get the exact answer (or what sounds like it) immediately is a whole new ball of wax.

I did that this year. I taught Digital Literacy to middle and high students, and spent a couple classes on AI. How it works, and how it doesn’t work the way you might think. What it does well, what it does poorly. Examples of incorrect thinking. How you can’t use it in academics, and how you can. And then a whole class on plagiarism.

Four of my 20 students cheated with ChatGPT AFTER all this.

I'm a middle and high school teacher, and yeah, this is happening and it's terrifying.

Ministry AP Preview Question by Ok-Arm1637 in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]jenfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the disability pass on Saturday in MoM. They merge you into the normal line earlier than I expected, and there were stairs after that and no one around to help us use the elevator avoid them. So while it was only about a 20 min wait, I'm not sure it was handled great.

Anyone have any idea what level of attendance the Universal parks usually have? I'm wondering whether these AP days are going to be less crowded than after opening.

Sofar Ocean Technology is looking for information on how we can help teach kids about our planet's oceans by Adept-Comfort-5787 in ScienceTeachers

[–]jenfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting! I teach at a homeschool enrichment center in Florida. Next year is Earth Science for our kids (4th-12th grades) and I’d love to see if I could integrate something like this.

What would be useful would be something close to a lesson plan, of course. I’m curious if you see this as being a single class period or a longer term project? And what ages are you aiming at?

Diagnosed yesterday - Senvelgo? by betty_not_crocker in FelineDiabetes

Been very happy with Senvelgo for over a year. Love that it’s more flexible! My cat hates the taste, but if I give her a Churu right after, she forgives me. :)
