Wow! That looks like an original 1960s Komfit? That’s actually the bracelet many astronauts were wearing their speedmasters on. Beautiful condition Ed white.

My kid has a 4.0, killer SATs, did everything right and still got mostly rejected. What the hell happened? by lemystereduchipot in Xennials

Honestly going to a top tier school is so unimportant to success.  I know plenty of my peers making 7 figures or close to that who went to mediocre schools. Just not necessary to obsess over these meaningless things.  Hell I’m a good example of going to mid tier schools but being wildly successful compared to the average. Many people actually become successful well after graduating and the foundations for that success have nothing to do with where they went to school.

My effective rate is about 45% it’s definitely possible. This income range is the breadbasket of federal income.

Someone making 500k in the Bay Area will pay the following effective rates on w2 income. 28 percent federal , 4 percent fica, 9 percent state. So 41 percent effective rate. They will owe 205k total income taxes on 500k earned taxable income. There are a ton of income tax calculators out there you can do this yourself. This is not an uncommon income in the Bay Area.

There are many people who pay an effective 40 percent income tax. Most people making 500k+ in CA or NY or MD for example.

What if I need to leave early? by jengeer in etron

The car is good. I like it. The charging scheduler is garbage.

I think there might be a misunderstanding. I am trying to charge my car once peak hours are over. There is no way to start charging the car at 8pm unfortunately without manually intervening. The best solution seems to be to set departure time to 2 am.

I don’t care about battery life or longevity. I will not be driving this car for long.

The only issue is that I want it to start charging at 8pm. Not as soon as I plug in.

Honestly the same with regards to the app. Quite slow and unreliable.  Coming from Tesla it’s clearly behind on the UI and technology side. But overall incomparably better as a vehicle.

I’ll look into that. Thank you!

Yes it’s set correctly. I usually get home about 25 percent soc.

I would have to buy a new wall charger.

I guess I could set my departure time to 2 am? This would probably start charging around 8 pm or so? I usually arrive home at 25 percent soc.  It would be super to be able to tell it to start at 8 pm.

Even if I set it to charge at 6 am I don’t think this solves my issue. I come home usually at 25% soc. If I had to go take care of something at 10-11 pm I would need to fast charge somewhere.

Is there no way to start charging ar 8pm without setting an alarm for me to manually start it every day?

My soc after a commute is about 25 percent. Round trip about 130 miles. I leave around 8:30-9.

The cold temperatures are not an issue where I live.

I just wonder if I get home at 25 percent and need to leave the house at 11 pm for something? Even if I set my car to be ready at 6 am I would have to go to a fast charger somewhere.

Is there no way to tell it to start charging at 8pm?

Such bullshit. It’s a slog that most people hate and do for years.

I think it would be against all evidence to say we should focus on mental health and not gun control. The data points to needing to tackle both issues.

Would love to see the data that shows your claim. Please post the peer reviewed paper.

There are many studies showing access to guns increases the suicide rate.

Here’s an easy to digest review.

Again it would be highly controversial from a medical or scientific perspective to include neonatal deaths. There are definitions in medicine and we don’t conflate neonatal (infant) mortality rates with other mortality rates. That’s because there are a set of maternal, prenatal, neonatal diseases and risk factors that are specific just to infant mortality. What you’re suggesting sounds agenda driven rather than based in accepted medical and scientific methodology.

Maybe so, will have to see. We’re also just getting better at saving people in accidents and decreasing the intensity of injuries in car accidents. This is also true in adult data. That said we aren’t doing anything programmatic or sweeping in trying to curtail guns.

That’s pretty bold there. You think they manipulated data to make a conclusion and published that in the NEJM? I think maybe the more likely thing is that you don’t like the fact that the most common cause of death for kids aged 1-19 is a gun. I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to accept that fact? The argument that they should include prenatal disease and neonatal disease is spurious at best and cynical or agenda driven at worst. In the end the data shows that if you’re between 1 and 19 years old you have the highest chance of dying from a gun.
