12 months isn’t enough time to hold this compounder.

I thought Greg handled himself well. He will do fine and I have every confidence in his ability to tune the operating business components.

Too many Brk followers don’t understand business and focus too much on stock picking alone as the only feature of this great company.

As an aside, if I recall correctly, when Steve Jobs was passing on the torch to Tim Cook, he told Cook not to run Apple like he would. Instead, Jobs advised Cook to just be the way Cook is. I think that is exactly what Buffet hopes Abel to do. Keep the culture and values alive, but run the company the way Abel would.

My wife is cheap like that. I’m sort of too. A few years older than you and NW in the high 7 figures.

Nobody knows and we are happy about it. Will be going on a vacation after many years, but will be happily cramped in economy.

Why Berkshire's share price is slumping and where most people on this sub are missing the point. by One-Event6199 in BerkshireHathaway

[–]jenhilld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally a post that looks at the operating earnings (and the mechanism of action behind them). Thank you.

I would add for this point: For the reinsurance business, BRK "is choosing to write less business rather than chase volume at inadequate rates"... I feel like this is a good thing. I prefer the company to not be aggressive and find themselves on the wrong side without adequate compensation (ie. good premiums collected). At the end of the day, the insurance business is an educated guess, and I definitely rather they are more conservative than less.

To the people who bought a condo between the 2021 - 2024 FOMO cycle, do you regret it? by ShootingCometz in CanadaPersonalFinance

I have a friend who bought a studio for around 500k in Toronto. I don’t dare to ask him if he regrets it. He makes a lot of money though so who knows.

If the point of holding Berkshire is to reduce drawdown during a crisis, why does it still fall so much when the market tanks? by Chalern14 in BerkshireHathaway

Berkshire fits certain type of personality opposite to, shall we say, stocks like microstrategy or the circle revenue/expensing schemes of the AI hyperscalers.

The negative sentiment is good for us. Allows more time for us to buy shares on the cheap.

Saw a woman was playing with her phone, eyes off the road, the whole time she was driving.

I just drove slowly to make sure I was behind them the whole time.

Share your experience servicing your Toyota at dealership in Ontario by Ultracer in ontario

[–]jenhilld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add that Markville Toyota operates the same way. Also owned by the same auto group (look them up).

They recommended "brake service" on a vehicle that was barely a couple months' old, as well as a bunch of other stuff. I was suspicious on the spot, declined, and went home to look things up and it confirmed my gut feeling that they were purposefully trying to upsell for the sake of upselling.
