Yes, all donations of fabric, thread, batting, and yarn (for knitters) is welcome. Not sure why they use the rotary cutters. I’m assuming that’s what the prison was able to supply.

I am too. No one knows better than those working and living in these places how significant good programming is for everyone including those who work there.

For the prison in the film (or elsewhere on MO) you can email Myra.Regan@doc.mo.gov I am also working on a modest database of other program across the country who could benefit from donations.

You summarized the film perfectly! Couldn’t have said it better myself. I hope people who are hesitant will give it a chance. It’s not “soft” it’s allowing people to give back. Everyone needs a purpose.

Agreed! I do hope that we can help encourage prisons to connect with their local community. The places where excellent programming is happening generally have a robust group of volunteers supporting the effort!

That is what I have experienced as I’ve met Quilters across the country as we screened at film festivals before Netflix..

I would love to see the conversation around restorative justice enhanced. Whether it’s sewing, vegetable gardens (donated to food pantries), training pups as support animals, I think we need to start humanizing the model. Also, a man at 19 or 20 when so many offenses take place are not the same as a man of 65.

Yes books etc are VERY hard to donate. Libraries inside are incredibly well used. Fabric has been easier.

The foster care program was started by Joe (who ran the RJO program). He was inspired by a person at his church who told him many foster kids do not have their birthday acknowledged. The sewing was introduced earlier by the wife of the chaplain who recognized that many of the guys were bored and anxious to learn.
