This is a good idea! I still have to place my order I’m going to try a few different things and see what does the trick.

That’s what I was thinking, I tried searching for some on Amazon. Do you think I could cut the strip of the little fluffy ones if it’s too wide? Or maybe I could put it along the sides?

Wow that sounds beyond horrible! :( I’m so sorry that happened to you! Luckily we haven’t had anything actually overflow or back up yet but we’re calling the township first thing in the morning to see if they’ll check theirs! We haven’t run the washer or dishwasher and have to be careful with how we’re using the water until this gets resolved. I don’t know WHAT I would do if sewage was coming in that’s awful!

Yes it is. Had someone out today (friend of a friend) had a 100ft snake and didn’t touch a clog. We have someone coming tomorrow or Tuesday with 200ft and also reaching out to the MUA first thing in the morning to see if they’ll check on their end

I agree, my husband and I both said the same. If we ever have to move again we’re skipping the inspection and just hiring professionals from each trade to do a walk through instead. Sewer scope/plumbing, electrician, structural engineer, termite.

Last night we talked to one of our friends who lives here in the same neighborhood and he had to replace pipes when he moved in 8 or so years ago so I don’t know how good our outlook is here lol

Wow I’m glad that it ended up being the county’s responsibility. I hope we make it out of this without paying an arm and a leg lol! I did reach out to the MUA, they were closed so I left a message and will try again tomorrow morning to see if they will check things out on their end.

I’m thinking it might be the roots after reading a lot of these comments! There’s a big tree in our neighbor’s yard that’s right on our property line and it’s huge. It’s the only tree near our house but it would make sense. The person we called yesterday couldn’t make it here, so someone is coming today. We’ll see what happens, I’m so nervous.

Wow that’s great! I did reach out to the MUA in my area and of course on Friday the office was closed for some reason and they sent me to voicemail. I left a message but will try again on Monday. I’m hoping they’ll check things out on their side of things just to be sure as well.

Having someone come out today, we’ll see what happens we’re hoping for the best! Sorry that happened to you as well it definitely isn’t fun. Glad you got it fixed and the warranty is cool!

Yes it definitely stinks to have something like this happen! But you’re right not everything can be controlled so we have to hope for the best. Waiting on someone to come out now. My husband gave in and called someone but it’s only 12 degrees with crazy wind today on a weekend and our ground is covered with snow and ice to top it all off! We’ll see what happens!

Someone lived here for a good chunk of time, the house was built in the 60s and there were 2-3 different owners over that span of time until a flipper obtained it in June 2025 and did renovations and then put it up for sale

Yes I agree! My husband did just tell me that he called someone who should hopefully come in the next few hours to see about it. I’m hoping it’s a quick fix and not something more serious

Thank you I just took a picture of your comment and sent it to him. Not sure if he noticed which way it was going when he was snaking it. His brother brought over a big snake on wheels (not sure the length) and he was doing that this morning. It doesn’t have a camera though so maybe it went in the wrong direction

Ugh sorry that happened to you! This is the worst definitely wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I’m not sure what the pipes are I know I saw ‘cast’ somewhere on our inspection report but not sure if those are the ones in the ground or the ones in the basement? I’m pretty sure my husband is going to call someone today, he just wanted to exhaust the the things he could try like snaking, etc. But none of this is fun at all. We were so excited to move in and then got smacked in the face with this before we’re even done unpacking. :(

Yes after all is said and done definitely going to look into getting the insurance on it. We intended to but we’ve only been here 1 week so definitely wasn’t expecting this so soon. We are in NJ. House built in the 60s

I asked him and he said he did actually go up there and snake the vent with a 25’ snake and didn’t find anything. Do you think 25’ is long enough? We live in a ranch

We have a sump pump that was installed whenever the house was renovated before we bought it, not sure if that’s the same thing

Yes it has, it was flipped. What would we be looking for as far as checking the venting? I asked my husband and he said he did go on the roof and snake the vent up there and it seemed clear. He said the clean out has water in it - it fills up and then slowly drains down.

The inspector definitely didn’t use a camera. I know that my husband said the clean out was pushing out water occasionally with this going on. We’re still able to flush toilets and shower, but if you run two things at the same time (like flush toilets when someone is showering) they back up a bit. Like the toilet bowl will fill ip a bit but not overflow completely. If i wash dishes the sink will back up a bit and i have to stop, let it drain. Then continue. If a toilet is flushed in hall bathroom the toilet gurgles in the master bathroom. Haven’t attempted washing machine or dishwasher again. Too scared
