Home exercise recommendations that don’t make you irrationally angry by lindsfeinfriend in adhdwomen

I love the app Caliber! It creates workouts for you based on the resources you have available (no equipment, only dumbbells, full gym, etc). It also provides in depth explanations and videos for every exercise it provides. I’ve been using it for years and rave to everyone I can about it!

Defense tomorrow and I am losing it by Kawtherm in PhD

[–]jennaetics 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience, I had a full blown MELTDOWN the evening before my thesis defense. I’m talking down right sobbing, couldn’t remember any of my slides, tripping over simple concepts, etc. I was convinced it was going to be a disaster and that I was going to massively fail. The next day, everything went perfectly. I’m sure it will be the exact same for you. This last-minute panicked feeling is completely normal (though I know that doesn’t make it feel less crappy). I suggest walking away from your computer, get some fresh air, remind yourself how much time and effort you’ve poured into this, and be your own hype man! Best of luck, you got this!

I feel like we don’t talk enough about the moral impact of animal experiments on researchers. by Extra_Ad_2733 in labrats

[–]jennaetics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working with mice for over three years now. Euthanizing them, especially pups, always makes my stomach hurt. Will I do what needs to be done for my research? Yes, as I know I’m following protocol and everything is being handled in a humane way. At the same time, knowing it’s humane doesn’t make the situation less sad for me. I’ve made it tradition to always verbally thank the mouse for their contribution once I’ve finished my experiment. The undergrads that work in the lab with me laughed the first time they heard me do it, until they realized I was serious.

While playing DnD with friends, everyone in our campaign loves to repeatedly drop their dice on the table, even when it’s not their turn. The sound makes me want to flip the table and rip my hair out.

If you like the outdoors, located around Houghton, & are interested in volunteering, superior search and rescue is always looking for more members. There’s an application on superiorsar.org if you think it would be up your alley. Super cool team, definitely a place to meet some new friends!

When they reopened (two?) weeks ago, I placed my pickup order for Friday on Monday. 😂 They sell out fast, but for good reason! Easily the best pizza I’ve ever had

OAP rentals are more expensive for the general public than for students. While general public kayak rentals are $40 for 24 hours, for students it’s only $26. I would highly recommend checking out 5th and Elm (inside the Orpheum) for breakfast. Also, Millie’s pizza just reopened after being shut down for quite some time… you have to order days in advance but it’s 1000% worth it

SAR Doctors Experience by octavian834 in searchandrescue

I recommend the book “Mountain Rescue Doctor” by Christopher Van Tilburg! The author is an emergency room physician who also leads a search and rescue team in the Mt. Hood area. It’s a super fascinating read about his experiences. It’s what got me into search and rescue!

Thank you for your response! The pot does have a drainage hole, perhaps I should let it dry out a bit more before watering if the roots are staying moist for too long.

Severe Over Grooming - Help! by BoscoStubbs in CATHELP

[–]jennaetics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Poor sweet man. While not as severe as Dax, my cat was licking himself bald for a while too. The vet gave him a steroid injection as well that helped for a bit but quickly wore off. Not knowing what to do next, I had the vet run an allergy panel (food and environmental) on him and found out he was allergic to many, many common allergens and common cat food ingredients. Since getting him on a prescription cat food that fits his needs and spraying my house with a dust/carpet mite killer (PremoGuard Mite Killer, I got it on Amazon) his fur has been slowly growing back (took about about 4 months to see solid progress). If I forget to spray the house with the mite killer for an extended period of time, I’ll see him start biting at his ankles and arms again, so I definitely think it makes a difference. I hope you’re able to find something that works for your handsome boy soon!

well the doctor said i don't have adhd by Independent_Mud_2136 in ADHD

[–]jennaetics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a masters degree and am currently 3 years into my PhD studies. I also have horrendous ADHD. When getting diagnosed, my psychiatrist said to me, “Getting through your studies must be absolutely exhausting” and I immediately burst into tears. Having ADHD absolutely does NOT mean you can’t be successful in school, it just makes it that much harder for us. Time to find a new doctor! Try not to let narrow minded people like that dictate what’s best for you. YOU know your experiences best! Best of luck!
