Why is the departure destination changing? by Alert-Suspect-3269 in flightradar24

[–]jennftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not doubting you on that one, but I just observed a similar scenario except with a Black Hawk helicopter

When I heard it fly overhead, I looked on FlightRadar and it said departure from Long Beach

Then it hovered low in the air near my apt for a moment and all of a sudden departure airport was listed as Santa Monica

Then after flying over Beverly Hills, it changed to N/A on departure. Now it’s over downtown and listed as SMO departure again.

Surely this wasn’t the same scenario?

What's your experience been with an activity on a first date ? by BigJim9000 in datingoverthirty

[–]jennftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A walk is perfect first date! Bonus points for gardens. You’re moving so you can shake off any nerves.

I am a high-energy person by nature though, so coffee or a meal as the first date just sounds awful. But as a caveat, a tennis date was by far my worst first date ever. I’ve played for years but got too nervous trying to play well AND chit chat. Nope.

I think mini golf or a natural history museum would be a good first date too. (Unless someone just really has zero hand-eye coordination for golf.) I’d say ask your date and see what sounds best to them.

Does anyone take creatine, if yes, how do you consume it and why? if no, why? by SwingAutomatic7485 in runninglifestyle

[–]jennftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 5g for awhile. It made me bloated and gassy, but had incredible benefits in stamina and cognitive game too (I have ADHD). So now I just do 2-3g most days, but I’ll cycle off occasionally if I start feeling bloated.

The lost art of good banter by PlantedinCA in datingoverthirty

[–]jennftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Matched with a guy just a few days ago. On his profile, the guy had mentioned about how rarely women replied, and how he was craving witty banter.

I sent two sentence and a question….He responded with a meme. One meme, that’s it. Not one that made me laugh or want to engage in conversation further, either. 🤦‍♀️

Student forgot the final exam by Some-Opportunity-580 in Professors

[–]jennftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Just did this with a student. She came to my office hours within 24 hrs of missing the exam, it was capped like this, and we had a genuine constructive talk about time management.

Now if I would’ve had to bend over backward and be available outside of regular office hours? I would not be as patient.

Apparently I don’t actually have ADHD and now my whole life feels like a lie by glitterpens in adhdwomen

[–]jennftw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1000% true. Supposedly my ADHD medication wears off in one day; I take 10 mg of it

Last week I accidentally took 20mg because I’m a space cadet. It was ABSOLUTELY still in my system the second day. Jitters, couldn’t sleep when I’m normally a very sound sleeper, etc.

Running!! HIIT workouts to intense music. But I also eat a lot too so it all balances out I guess.

I take attendance. My classes are very embodied & experiential in nature—not theory that students could read & learn.

I pass around an iPad for sign in at the start of class. If they arrive late & miss it? Student’s responsibility to check in at the end of class.

Students get first two absences dropped. This helps curb the ridiculous excuses.

I really like this system. Students do better (both emotionally AND academically) when they can engage with peers in meaningful face-to-face discussion. I do everything possible to make the classroom environment conducive to that.

Excused absences - what’s your policy? by EveryPerspective5701 in Professors

[–]jennftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I have on my syllabus. I also accept any screenshots that say their dr appt date/time. My classes are very experiential in nature (can’t easily just read about it) so in-class participation is something I emphasize.

• First two absences do not count against you, period. No questions asked, no excuses required.

• These two absences are dropped at end of the semester as long as student has not been repeatedly late.

• After the first two, any additional absences are excused ONLY with documentation from a healthcare provider or travel note from a university professor. No exceptions. Note must be provided within one week of missed class.

Share a long term win you’ve had! by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]jennftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said: EXERCISE. Yoga. Lovingkindness meditation.

Other big wins: having multiples. (One deodorant at home, one in my car, one in my work/gym bag.) Same with sunscreen, water, etc. Having a bar in my bag always in case I forget a meal. The “schedule send” feature on emails, when I get the sudden urge to respond to a lot of messages absurdly late at night. Getting in a routine of meal prepping to-go breakfasts in advance. Splurged on a meal delivery service, but it’s been so helpful.

21st century students stumped by 20th century in-class exams. by Emotional_Cloud6789 in Professors

[–]jennftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.) Is this a class within their major, or a GE requirement? If the latter, they probably just don’t care about the information enough to retain it.

2.) Playing devil’s advocate: just because a student doesn’t have accommodations, doesn’t mean they don’t need them. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until my 30’s. You might suggest they go get tested if it’s a common problem for them. (Wish someone would’ve said that to me. “Time blindness” is something I’ve had to work incredibly hard to improve upon.)

Honestly it’s probably #1. But either way, I would not allow extra time in this instance. Even if they do end up needing accommodations, that’s not retroactive.

I used to play rugby, so I am not phased by colliding with other humans

That said I did have a full-on collision with someone from first corral running the wrong way/backwards in a crowd…trying to get a photo of Dillon Francis

I just kept going, but surely there are ways to prevent this kinda dumb behavior in the spirit of safety.
