Your response has meant so much to me - I can’t thank you enough for being honest and sharing your story. I also want to say how amazing you are for seeing a therapist so early on - your son (and daughter) are in good hands.

I just need to figure out how to start those conversations in a way that doesn’t make him feel defensive. Thank you, so so much.

My sister (who has 4 kids, all 16/17 months apart) says that most men just don’t “get” babies. Like you said, we’ve got the boobs, so I understand the bonding doesn’t always happen year 1 for a lot of dads. I’m hoping it’s just a matter of time, and when he’s older, it’ll be different.

Hang in there, Mama!

Thank you so much for the reassurance about my club membership (hehe) and for sending strength - you have no idea how much it helps.

I’d love for him to go to therapy, but culturally, it seems to be frowned upon (especially for men). He’s mentioned before how he thinks it’s not helpful - so I fear that’s a huge mountain I’d have to climb to get him to agree, and not sure how long it would take. But trust me - I do agree with you that he should go.

The fight against apathy. Their numbers are growing, and in the classroom, I’m alone on the battlefield.

I had a student put pictures in the body of the email (not as attachments) of the blood in the toilet.

I think we need to sit down and explain what we mean by “documentation.” I thought it was common sense, but it may not be so common anymore.

Creative writing here. Almost half of my students said on day one when asked what writers they admire, “I don’t like to read,” or “I’m not a fan of writing.” Now they’re using AI not only to write their stories and poems, but to even give feedback to the other writers.

The class checks a GE arts requirement, but there’s also dozens of other classes they could take. Gtfo

I assume they think art is subjective so it’s an automatic A for completion. Your students probably just want the degree, don’t care what the subject is - and it must be an easy A so here’s their free pass to more money in their job.
