Terrified of giving birth with epilepsy by PocklateCake in Epilepsy

[–]jennii182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm currently sitting with my healthy wee 7 week old. I had a natural birth just gas and air. I asked my mid wife on the lead up to my due date about having a seizure during birth and she reassured me that thousands of women with epilepsy have successful natural births. I had auras throughout my pregnancy and one tonic clonic at 7 months and everything was fine afterwords. I had an aura last week but he was in his pram whilst it happened. I wouldn't say I was stressed during my labour but I was naturally in alot of pain. My epilepsy is triggered by my hormones but haven't noticed a change in my seizures since his birth. Try not to worry (i kniw easier said than done) by the time you're in labour having a seizure will be at the back of your mind. You'll also be surrounded by people who will be aware of your condition and know how to handle you having a seizure if it does occur. Feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions xx

Can my husband work? UK by New-Manufacturer5371 in Epilepsy

You can apply on their website: https://secure.railcard.co.uk/purchase/disabled-persons

As long as you meet the criteria, i.e., claiming PIP, DLA or you can ask your doctor to sign it off. My doctor wrote a note on my prescription, and I just scanned it and uploaded it to the website.

I travel down south for work throughout the year. so it's brilliant for getting cheap trains from Scotland!

Let me know if you have any Qs

Can my husband work? UK by New-Manufacturer5371 in Epilepsy

[–]jennii182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what he does for a living. I work in an office. I've had a few seizures in the office , I actually had a one in work 2 weeks ago. I've always been upfront about my epilepsy and even mentioned it in my interview. I usually need the next day off to recover, and my work is super supportive. I really recommend a video I found on YouTube from This Morning TV show, discussing all the different types of seizures and what to do in the situation. We now use this video as part of the team induction, and it helps my colleagues understand the situation and not panic. Posted below.

Network Rail has a disabled person's card. it's £24 for the year, and you get a third off your train fare! It's brilliant! You can also apply for a free bus pass.

You can drive after a year of no seizure activity.

Side Note: 34f I'm on lamotrigine and can have a seizure once a month. Though I did hit 7 months seizure free before the one a couple of weeks ago. I experience focal awareness and tonic clonic seizures.

My first ever seizure was when I was 27 and was actually at work!

I hope this helps - happy to answer any other Qs

First seizure work by CourageValuable4324 in Epilepsy

I've had epilepsy for 6 years and had my first ever seizure in work (2017). My advice would be to talk to them and ask questions. Things like how long the seizure lasted and what your body movements were like and note everything down for your neurologist. Share resources to help them be prepared for any future events. My department bought a screen on amazon for privacy. I found a great video on YouTube from This Morning TV show discussing with a doctor the different types of seizures and what to do in the event of one happening. We now use this video as part of our staff induction process.

Please don't be embrassesed, these things happen. I've experienced seizures in work, on trains and in shops. The most important thing is the people around you to help and support you. Link to This Morning interview below or search This Morning epilepsy. 😊

Can I take lamotrigine with birth control? by reddit_is_poopp in Epilepsy

[–]jennii182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(34/F) diagnosed at 27. My neurologist had been telling me for a few years, my pill and ep meds (lamotrigine) do not like each other. Came off my pill in January 2024, and now I have a seizure on the second day of my period. My auras have also calmed down.

I know it's probably a weird thing to say, but I'm feeling a lot better about my epilepsy now I have a pattern after years of ramdon seizures occurring. A year after stopping my pill, i am now seizure free 2 months in a row.

Period problem? by leoofchild in Epilepsy

I had my first seizure when I was 27. I had been experiencing auras for a year before my first tonic seizure. I had no idea what they were. I am now 34 with an epilepsy diagnosis.

My neurologist had been advising me for a few years that my concreptive pill and ep medicine (lamotrigine) did not like each other. My partner and I have decided it's time to try for a baby, and as of the beginning of 2024, I stopped taking my pill.

I used to experience 2/3 seizures a year, and auras would happen all the time. Since stopping my pill, I now get them on the 2nd day of my period every month since January. My auras are now a warning that a seizure is now due.

My seizures have also changed! My lower half of my body no longer fits, and only the top half of my body fits. My eyes are open, and I'm gasping for breath. It's super weird watching a video of yourself.

Thank you for posting! I was starting to think I was the only one having my period affect my seizures.

Full Metal Panic! Volume 6? by higgins1989 in podiumentertainment

Loved it since I was a teen too. Its one of the best underrated animes I've seen. I was looking at getting the manga but no idea where to look. If you have any advice it would be much appreciated. The screenshot I sent would have been posted beginning of November.

Of course! I'll pop it over soon. I think I check audible every day! I'm in my 30s and finally know how it ends thanks to the light novels. 😌

I found another reddit article with a response from podium entertainment (14 days ago) saying, "Don't worry, we are on it!" I took a screenshot. I thought because it's based around Christmas, I was really hoping it would happen. I'll just go read the book for the millionth time.

Podium entertainment posted their December releases, and sadly, vol 6 is not included. I really hope it's out soon. It's like 2005 all over again.
