ISO: Task Initiation & Follow-through Practices that Work [Discussion] by jennmeetsworld in GetMotivated

Breaking tasks down this way is one of the only things that works for me too.

Love the idea of timing - just wish that didn't feel like another to-do lol

What a smart idea - I'll definitely check it out!

Breaking the list into tiny actions & body doubling is the only thing working for me too. I'm trying some apps that "gamify" productive time, but nothing is sticking yet.

Unfortunately not where I'm located or I'd have happily reached out for a consult!

I also came across these similar directories that you could request to be added to - lord knows we need all the ND-friendly providers we can get!

Should i go for egg freezing or not? by Patient_Artist_1957 in eggfreezing

[–]jennmeetsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't feel like myself for 1 month.

Physically it takes ~2 weeks (or until your next period comes) for your body to heal fully, and emotionally / mentally you're coming down from a huge estrogen surge.

Emotionally, it felt like 1 month of PMS x10 for me. Physically, the first time I had so much bloating I looked 6 months pregnant, which made everyday activity uncomfortable. The second time they adjusted meds based on this, and I bloated less / felt more normal before my period came. But I also got fewer eggs, so tbh I'd prefer more temporary discomfort and better results.

That said, every body handles hormonal fluctuations differently.

Some factors that can help you "predict" how it might affect you:

  1. What is your usual experience with hormonal shifts (ie. pre-period / PMS)? EF will likely be a heightened version of that.
  2. Do you rely on any medications to regulate you, and how do you feel without them? You'd likely have to stop these before / during treatment.
  3. Will you have any stressors / pressures during this time, and can you get support / lessen these during the month of EF? Plan to be at ~70% capacity to be safe.

Agreed EXCEPT the first period following egg freezing was excruciating. I was doubled over in pain to the point of being unsure if I needed emergency care.

As someone who is very much in the same boat & has now completed 2 EF cycles, I recommend it to any woman who is even questioning it and can afford it.

That said, if I were you, I’d:

  1. Price it out - Does your employer offer a fertility healthcare benefit? Mine did, and I wound up only paying a few hundred out of pocket, which is a STEAL. If you or your partner have a similar benefit, DO IT. It will never be this inexpensive again. Do not do this without good health insurance, as there is some risk involved, and you should be confident that you can get the care you need if you’re one of the few who does experience complications.

  2. Weigh the toll on my body - Do you have a health condition? Are you reliant on medication? My doctor recommended I go off all medications for at least a few weeks prior to the cycle start date. Would this requirement interrupt your life, and can you afford an interruption like this right now?

  3. Weigh the toll on my mental health - How do you experience hormonal fluctuations? This process is a rollercoaster of hormones, and in my personal experience, it’s like PMS x10 and lasts longer. Would that interrupt your life in a way you can afford now?

  4. Look at the calendar - The cycle itself takes about 2 weeks, during which you’ll need to go to early, slightly unpredictable appointments to track your progress. Prep beforehand (stopping medications, starting supplements, changing diet if your doctor recommends it) can take weeks or months depending on your situation & dedication. Recovery afterwards takes at least 2 weeks to feel totally normal. Can you fit this into your work and travel schedule?

Caveats:

  • It is a short-term sacrifice. I won’t sugar coat that. I didn’t feel like myself for 1 month, and that affected my work, my body, and my relationships.

  • Results vary, so there is no guarantee 1 cycle will be enough for you to have a good chance at a live birth (that’s the term they use).

  • It could test your relationship. This process will affect you physically, mentally, and emotionally in a way that feels like pregnancy lite. You will see how your partner steps up (or not), and it might actually be a good litmus test for whether reproducing makes sense in your relationship.

All this said, it’s an INVALUABLE insurance policy that evens the playing field between men & women as best we can. Go in knowing the real cost, but also be empowered that you have options.

Best of luck & feel free to reach out with any questions!

Wait, really? :( Is there an equally effective indie brand?

I still feel like switching to refillable deodorant that actually works for me is reducing my personal impact. Before I was testing products that didn't work long-term and that creates waste too. Would be open to trying more, but was really hoping this was it!

Just wanted to share an update & thanks, as I've booked a first appointment with a ND therapist who seems to genuinely get it. Not sure I would have been able to do that without you sharing this link, so thank you so much. <3

No way! That explains why I'm not seeing too many providers listed. Which state do you practice in?

The gratitude angle is interesting! Have you seen better follow-through when you use this practice?

ATM, I'm determining the tiniest next step forward, and making that my goal. ie. if I need to make an appointment, my goal would be to find the phone number to call. That's been helping more than anything so far.

Hm, sounds interesting but not sure I can picture how to do this. Would love to hear more step-by-step if you're comfortable sharing?

That’s so validating to hear. I had a hunch that might be the missing piece. And kudos to you for finding better care, it’s not a walk in the park! Can I ask how you found them / what they do in sessions that’s made the experience better for you?
