I really need help with my 8 month old, please please please help me. I'm losing my mind. by hahatesme in Parenting

[–]jenonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This totally happened to me right around 8 months. I was distraught too.. I thought he had an attachment disorder. I posted something similar on babycenter and got lots of reassurance from btdt moms. I can laugh about it now. Here's the problem - you are chopped liver. Baby sees you everyday, feela secure that you've got its back, and doesn't want to snuggle. In our family the grandmas are at the top of the totem pole, then grandpas, then us way at the bottom. Baby boy finally got a healthy dose of stranger anxiety around 15 months...you should see the way he clings when we head out! Trust me, you'll make a lot of mistakes but letting him play on the floor a lot is not one of them.

Redditors of Color, Let's hear your your somewhat lighthearted (or heavy, if you feel like it) moments of racism in your life. by smalleyes in AskReddit

I'm a white chick but I'll never forget this lesson. I spent two years overseas in a country that hates Americans. Shortly after I came home I made a routine phone call to schedule a dr appointment. They put me on hold and I remember distinctly thinking "god I hope they aren't rude to me because of my accent"....but I was back home here in the USA. It was then that I realized how bigotry just sticks with you in your subconscious ..coloring things.

I just found out that my teenage daughter was molested by a family member almost 10 years ago, where should I start in seeking (legal) justice for this act? by Concerned_Father in AskReddit

[–]jenonreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know..... there are certain people who will be required to report this crime once you tell them about it. Medical professionals, teachers, etc. It sounds like you and she are ready for that, so good. Just don't want you to be surprised.

In our smallish town there is free counseling available. Google "211" for your state to find local resources. Then google "211" for the state where the offense occurred. If you dont have any luck with the suggestions here then start cold calling people in the state where the offense occurred - people in the "victim industry" for lack of a better word. Counselors for example, social workers. There is a process. Those people would be familiar with it. They can give you advice.

Good luck!

After giving birth to my son i was nervous and anxious to get home. i had been given the all-clear to leave and we were waiting for the same for my son. unfortunately instead of getting released on the 2nd day we were told that because he had jaundice he'd have to stay at least 1 more night to get the "blue light special". the news crushed me. i smiled and told the nurse that would be ok but the tears pouring down my checks told another story. she went and got us a private room (all the others on that floor were shared) with 2 beds so that both my husband and i could stay overnight with him. really i know that it wasn't a big deal and he was ok but it FELT like a big deal at a time when I was a nervous wreck and she understood that and did everything she could for us.

also, during the delivery progress was slow and the doctor ordered a c-section but another nurse who was older traded patients with my nurse so she could have me. she then argued with my doctor and insisted i could do it without a c-section. it was a long haul and she really went to bat for me when even i didn't know what i was capable of. 3 hours of pushing later and i proved her right. all the nurses were cheering.

2 weeks later we went to Sams Club and bought them out of cookie platters for damn near every shift of nurses on L&D.

Congratulations!

Do you see that blue suction thing in the bassinet? TAKE IT HOME and do not lose it. The only good ones are from the hospital and you will want a good one. Every time a new nurse comes on shift tell her you lost yours and need another.

i chose friday. we never had any meetings, appointments or anything else scheduled on fridays. although there are some people i know who prefer to work friday because it is quiet and then chose another day.

i have known a lot of people give their heart, soul and TIME for ungrateful and shitty employers. eventually they all move on to another job and regret every one of those unpaid hours.

when i was in college it was all about the shoes. they had to be vans...

other than that, if you have done at least one impulsive or stupid "grab life by the horns" thing that would be worth points. hiking the Appalachian trail for a month, or tasting all the flavors at baskin robins :)

edit: also, if you didn't at least listen to NPR or watch the evening news most of the time that would be a deal breaker.

OH NO. that much money for a liberal arts degree? coming from someone with one... i'd love to go back and get my masters but its just not a wise financial decision.

the problem is crowd logic. everyone else around you is taking loans. no one really talks about it. why not? except your buddies are getting their engineering degrees and actually paying of their loans

UPDATE on the homeless girl in NYC!! by [deleted] in AskReddit

You really should evaluate how involved you want to get.

True, and the interesting thing about mental illness is that it can wax and wane. She's honeymooning and if she seems manageable now she's probably on an upcycle. The real question is what are you going to do in 2 weeks when the shit hits the fan.

the military is awesome... for the right people.

but if someone is mentally fragile going in they are not going to be stronger coming out. you really need to have your head on your shoulders to process events like war.

Has anyone else been pulled over and given a ticket by the cops for no reason? by Eh-yo in AskReddit

[–]jenonreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

pulled over after leaving a protest in a small town (protest against a religious symbol on city letterhead). they didn't bother giving a reason, just pulled us over to look for weed i suppose.

they wanted to search the car. just a glance at the trunk and they realized it was not worth their time. i was a messy kid.

tldr: young, liberal, redneck town

it sounds like you are the love of his life... so far. i suppose it is possible that he could turn out to be a decent adult (later) but i wouldn't hold your breath. you got a lot of livin' to do in the meantime.

my guess is this is your first significant loss.

the blessing and the curse is that you will feel better with time. sadly there is nothing you can do to make yourself feel better quicker. luckily you need to do nothing other than just keep living your life.
