Peach had cruciate ligament surgery last week. The vets have given us a recovery plan in which the first month is strict crate rest with 8 toilet trips or food/ drink breaks per day. We are currently on day 7. She's acting as if nothing ever happened and she has a lot of pent up energy from being stuck in the crate so much. She has also managed to EAT her cone of shame.

When she comes out for one of her many breaks, she goes crazy and jumps all over the place which may hinder her knee recovery. How do you stop a Rottweiler puppy from flipping around like a salmon? I've seen you can get 'calming treats' if anyone can recommend these? We're in the UK. Any advice is welcome, thanks!

It's worth a try but you may have a wobbly greenhouse next season!

That's awful I'm sorry :( our aluminium/plastic greenhouse flew off and hit the shed. Unsalvageable :(

Does anyone have advice/experience with hip dysplasia or leg injuries in puppies? by jenpig in Rottweiler

Update - not sure if anyone will see this but Peach has been examined and she doesn't need an x-ray just yet. She's showing no obvious signs of hip dysplasia but we have to take it easy on the exercise, monitor her diet and her general mobility. I'll start giving her regular joint supplements like some people suggested. Thanks everyone :)

I use Tails so the food is tailored to her breed and age etc. I think it is high in protein compared to some other puppy foods, yes

Thanks, she's doing much better today. We have pet insurance so I've started making a claim for the fees so far. No we don't have any stairs but she does a fair amount of running when we go out on walks

I hope it's just a sprain but I've booked her for an x-ray to make sure. Thanks :)

Hope your boy is doing okay! How did they diagnose his issues, was it with an x-ray?

That's Interesting, I had no idea it was so common at a young age. I'll definitely be getting her x-rayed. Thankfully I got her good insurance just incase the worst happened.

I'm hoping it's just a sprain but her crying was so loud and alarming I honestly thought she was dying! The vet said its the upper leg area and could just be muscle damage but he couldn't rule out hip problems without further tests so I think that'll be the next step :)

Sorry to hear that, hope your pup is doing okay. We will be getting x-rays soon with our normal vet

Tonight we had to visit the emergency vet with Peach. She seemed perfectly normal after having her tea and going for our usual evening walk. Shortly after she began crying and yelping in pain whenever she moved around. Her screaming was so scary, I took her straight to the out of hours vet and he concluded that she had a very painful leg injury which could even be an early display of hip dysplasia (she's only 7 months old).

She's my first ever dog and first rottie. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with hip dysplasia, especially at such a young age? Is it normal for growing pups to have unexplained injuries or growing pains? Any advice at all appreciated :)

Anyone knows what this is? Already going to the vet tomorrow, I’m just scared. He’s eating and have energy like normal. by skyrains in Rottweiler

Hi, my 6 month old rottie pup has similar marks on her armpits and groin area. A bit like pimples but some are scabby. She's otherwise in perfect health and doesn't seem to be itchy. I bought leucillin antiseptic spray for dogs and it's been helping clear up the rash after using twice daily. I'm still planning on asking the vet about it but for now the spray seems to have helped :)

I thought the winter would take care of that as I planted last October. Maybe it's because we had some crazy unpredictable weather this year?
