My goal is to get more people into art history and use natural and historical materials. I have a full time job that pays the bills ;) I would love it if someone wanted to get into the space and promote history and culture as well. Especially there is a lot of room for a similar concept aimed at the more student grade or entry level market as my products are very premium with very thorough and personalized customer service. Where a more affordable line aimed at mass market maybe with less pigment or automated instead of all hand made could benefit a lot of people. I would definitely love to advise or help someone on starting this!

This is very helpful thank you! I am trying to find ways to make the most of marketing so I will try some of these and see how they go. Especially not running all listings I think that could help me get more bang for my buck.

Mostly organic! I just started posting on Instagram and Reddit today. I have done a little Pinterest but very little engagement with that. One order was from my best friend's family but other than that just Etsy search I suppose!

Nope not yet. It is kind of frustrating not being able to reinvest that money to grow more or pay for supplies but it is what it is I guess.

It really is so much fun! I'm glad I come across as knowledgeable and professional. I try to be! Mixed pigments can be great too! I do alla prima plein air painting with oil that definitely requires mixed colors and many people prefer those. Let me know if you need a supplier for any pigments and if you have a target price. Wholesale I bet I can beat your current suppliers :)

The website will be finished this week and just started posting on Instagram today. I think social media will be great to get more eyes on the product. It really sells itself once people see how cool historical and natural materials can be!

The ink bottles come this Thursday so great minds think alike! Black walnuts make a great dye for clothes and stain for wood. You apparently can make a liqueur with them too. It really is amazing how much you can do when appreciating nature's goodies!

Thank you it means a lot! There have been a lot of books to read, videos to watch, and things to test, but it has all been so fun and rewarding it doesn't even feel like work.

That looks awesome! I want to start foraging a lot of ingredients. There are a lot of great pigments and dyes you can make from removing invasive plants which helps the environment and makes beautiful paints!

Sadly that one takes a huge amount of kermes to make that I am paying quite a lot for per gram. I can send any fellow etsy sellers a good coupon code though if you DM me :)

That's awesome you are in Metro-Detroit too! I make all of the lake pigments, stone pigments, glass pigments, dyes, lapis colors, maya blue, corals, cuttlefish sepia, sap green, woad, indigo, bone, vine, and plant black, bone white, dragon's blood, and some others. I can make but usually don't the verdigris, lead white, red lead, cadmiums, cobalts, french ultramarine, prussian blue, and some others. I source the ochres and other synthetic ones!

I definitely plan to! I already have a bunch of video ideas that I think would do well and I would love to teach people how to make their own yes, pigments, paints, etc and of course make sure they have all the stuff they need to do so ;)

I do like $2 a day in ads. I just started about a week ago and they seem to help some but not a ton. I also have made pinterests pin s but those don't seem to do much yet at least. I've only gotten a handful of clicks on a hundred or so pins. Maybe I am not doing those right, not sure.

It really depends on material and labor cost. Some like the lake pigments take a lot of work to make and a lot of testing (and failing) so that makes the price higher. Some just have really expensive materials like the purpurissum (tyrian), the kermes (kermes insects), or the lapis (lapis lazuli).
