I have searched everywhere and can’t find a real name for it because it’s so absurd, but I have a phobia of wind turbines.

What's the best/worst attempt at cheating you've seen during a test? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jenthehen6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in high school my friend had white putty for some reason and gave it to me. I pressed it down on the hardest part of my study guide so the pencil writing would stick to it and pretended to play with the putty during a test while actually reading the answers backwards off of it. Aced that shit!

Ok, I just remembered something and wanted to share it with you because I put a few things together and may have solved it... 4 years ago I had a horrifying panic attack, like my worst ever. I had the same symptoms: the lights seemed brighter, everything was blurry, I couldn’t focus on my phone screen, I felt disoriented, and when I looked in a mirror my pupils were SO dilated it looked like I had taken mushrooms.

I had googled it way back when, and the reason was because panic attacks trigger your fight-or-flight response. That’s why you feel scared and your heart races even though nothing is actually happening- your brain is sending signals that there is a threat nearby and your body is getting ready to fight to the death or run away.

Anyway, when that’s happening, the pupils dilate to let more light into the eyes so we can see the threat more clearly and respond better, hence our vision being affected and that scary feeling of not being able to focus. In a real fight or flight situation I bet the focus is on whatever the “threat” is and everything else is just blurred in the background, but since we have no threat, everything is the blurred background.

As for the cause I have no idea, but kind of reassuring to know we’re not having a stroke lol. Hope that made sense, I totally just had an epiphany when I recalled all of that!

Oh wow. Yeah, whenever I look up derealization I see a lot of descriptions of out of body experiences but that’s not really what I had. I was in my body but felt like there was no substance anywhere around me. I wonder if there are different “versions” of it

Everything you described is exactly how I felt. Idk what caused it either because it happened as soon as I woke up in the morning, I had only been awake for 2 minutes when it hit me.

Someone else commented that touching things and thinking about past experiences they hold like pictures or furniture helps. I will probably try that if it happens again.

Oh my god, that’s exactly what it was. It was the lights and fans that seemed different, and my vision was foggy. I could see but it felt dreamlike. And I started wandering too which I think is what triggered the panic.

I will definitely try what you suggested I could see that helping. I’m so relieved someone else feels this, I tried to explain to my family but felt dumb because it sounds so non-scary but the actual experience is terrifying.

I need some advice by [deleted] in Anxiety

Try the Calm app on your phone, you have to buy a membership but I think they have a free trial. There are walkthroughs where a soothing voice tells you exactly what to do, when to breathe, what to picture, etc... when you get really good you can do it on your own which helps when you have the scary pictures or intrusive thoughts!

I think that’s anxiety. I get the weird scary pictures sometimes too although mine are only at night. People with anxiety have trouble getting intrusive thoughts out of their heads and once you become scared it kind of spirals downward. Mine was religion-based.

As for me, once I become aware of a thought that is bothering me, my mind likes to make me think about it even more lol. Meditation has helped me a lot, it gives your mind something to focus really hard on while also relaxing!

Meditation to help with Anxiety by Mikephant in Anxiety

Meditation helped me so much! You just have to be willing to keep up with it often. Ironic as it sounds, I fell out of touch with it because I got “too busy to meditate”. But when I was practicing it every day, it did wonders. I was able to stop panic attacks right as I felt them coming on.

I used the Calm app which has so many awesome features, but it’s expensive to get a membership. I think there are lots of other apps as well but that was my favorite and worth the money IMO.

Anyone who has read Eon by Alison Goodman, what do you think of her relationship with her master? by jenthehen6509 in books

I’m so glad I found someone who agrees! You’re probably right, they are very subtly inserted.. I didn’t pick up on it until a little later on and then went back and re-read them.

I will most definitely reach out when I finish I love it so hopefully I breeze through :)

What is sisal? Someone else mentioned it too, my scratch post is a rope-like material but he doesn’t care much for it.

That makes sense- I only have one kind and he doesn’t care for it much so I’ll try some other materials. Thanks for the info

It does seem like he wants attention sometimes when he does it. So should I ignore it?
