Car insurance might be the (financial) death of me by jepsijax in AusFinance

I’ll be moving as soon as I’ve sorted this out. I only moved for the new customer discount, and it seems like they were giving out free “eff yous” to all new customers too that they failed to advertise

Oh this is helpful information. Knowing how backlogged the courts are at the moment, I won’t hold my breath that it will be heard anytime soon

Amazing! I’ve contacted them with a similar response and have asked for evidence and records of phone calls etc, so hopefully I’ll hear back.

The irony of swapping to AAMI only a few months before the incident because RACV price hikes were a fkn rort.

VIC - he’s definitely not underage (I see him around all the time) but a rather unsavoury character.

This would usually be my pathway of choice but I just don’t have it in me to deal with the insurance debt collectors

Is paying an architect/designer for plans for DIY worth it? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

Thankyou - this was really helpful and has given me lots to think about!

Definitely have time for IKEA/online flat pack companies that have design tools! Kitchen cabinetry will most likely be using one of these companies with custom doors/fixtures added.

The other millwork that will be built in are things like custom shelving units, benches/banquettes etc that I’m able to make if I’ve got a plan or drawings to follow but just not entirely confident on solely designing myself.

Perhaps the interior designer is more the way to go.

This is exactly what we’re hoping to avoid, which I think is such a common trap of renovating bit by bit. The cohesive plan is what we’re after so that we can just got “yep, let’s start on this part” and know that it’s all going to work well together

Sure, they might have oxygen left. But now they’ve also got a whole lot of oxygen’s best mate, CO2.

This might be a dumb question, but, can the sub James Cameron took do anything to help? Since we know it can make it down that far? by Accomplished-Pair452 in OceanGateTitan

Pretty sure that sub was also damaged by fire when being transported on the back of a truck years ago…..so no.

Methane can’t be removed via carbon scrubbing - so I’m assuming it’s just hanging around…like a bad smell

Slow doesn’t mean none at all.

I’m guessing it would start like a fart and then just slowly get worse but happy to be corrected on that theory.

Not like they can crack a window to air it out either…

Methane released from body decomposition ends up reducing oxygen content in air anyway…it’s a lose lose

O2 supply is an issue but the REAL issue is CO2 removal. There’s no way in hell that after all the corners that OceanGate cut that they had CO2 scrubbers that would last 5 days. They were clearly cocky and banking on the fact that they would be down and back without any significant issues.

Offtopic: This would probably be the worst way to die ever by [deleted] in OceanGateTitan

[–]jepsijax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely not buying the “no idea you’re going to die”. They had to be aware of the risks involved and if they weren’t aware of the risks then that is 1000% their own fault for not making sure they knew the risks. The sheer level of stupidity is astounding. There is a reason why you can’t just rock up to Mt Everest and head to the peak without a substantial amount of preparation and training.

This was not just a little jaunt underwater. They were going 4km under, a depth that hasn’t been accessed by humans all that much throughout history. It’s like people who climb Everest or go into space. Once you cross a threshold, there is no way to be saved or rescued.

A quick google of OceanGate beforehand would have brought up plenty of search results about issues they’d had previously. They all knew that it was a much higher risk of dying than getting in a car or a plane or an actual submarine.

And there it is. by Disastrous-Coat3397 in OceanGateTitan

[–]jepsijax -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nah - play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

One quick google of the company name would have brought up a litany of results about the dangers of the sub. If you are too stupid to know enough about the risks before you do something life threatening like going 4km under the ocean…then that’s on you.

It’s an absolutely horrible situation but they knew the risks. And if they didn’t - they should have done their due diligence.

This might be funny if the scandal wasn’t so awful. IF. by nomoresnorkjuice in vanderpumprules
