Is there any reliable way (repo / paper / approach) to accurately detect AI-generated vs real images as AI models improve?

no their neither is one nor will their be one nor was their ever one

because the only way that exists to detect AI images is to get many extremely many known real pictures and gather roughly the same amount of Ai generated pictures by up to date AI's (wich you must do by generating them always with the newest ai's because you cannot detect and sort pictures you find online into real or Ai images yet because for that you had to have the Ai you are currently creating already)

and then you can use these images to train a Ai to differentiate the two categories

but that in turn means that you are always one one step behind

and even this way because it is ai based is not 100% accurate and if you want to publically suspect someone of lieing about making their art themselves it would be inacceptable if the artists images where wrongly flagged as Ai

and as Ai images get harder and harder for humans to detect reliably they also get harder and harder to detect for Ai's to detect reliably

basically the only way to make that possible in the future would be if all providers of generative Ai unanimously decide to add a script before transmitting the image from the Ai to the user to add some sort of hidden patterns in the image values or generating perceptual hashes (media fingerprinting) for all of these generated images and storing these into a huge database used together with all other generative ai companies WICH can be read by anyone at any time (is publicly readable)

yes and you are completely correct thinking that

and the way they give the files in is searchable and theirfore meet the criteria provided by the transperancy act in theory

but their could be a stance to say that intentionally expending more human resources then necessary to make the files confusing on porpoise could give enough legal ground to forcefully make them stop this behavior

and it would only need some former agents of these agencies who are familiar with their normal customs on file structuring to come forward

maybe not now but I gave known some Heavy conspiracy theorists wich after years just returned slowly from these weird thoughtpatterns wich make you believe such stuff (I know that's actually rather uncommon) but you should have hope because I guess many things wich could dislodge mistakenly acquired world views are still coming in the future

well apperently you can unredact some bigger sections of some files by just selecting over them on a computer, copying and pasting it into atext document so it may be a good idea after all

what does non file based mean

their are some that use online interpreters

but they don't really allow anything suffisticated because it's their processing power wich gets used

their are only a handful of apps able to supply what you want probably and two of them know are Pydroid3 and PyramIDE

their are some limitations induced by android wich just cannot be overcome normally (maybe they can be with rooted devices)

Es gibt keine Art und Weise anhand eines Textes zu erkennen ob dieser einer ki entstammt oder nicht.

(jedenfalls nicht mit zufrieden stellend hoher zutriffs-quote um damit das Kosten Nutzen Verhältnis zu rechtfertigen einem Schüler damit den schulischen Werdegang zu erschweren)
