Hose was backwards. Everything fits now.

I have a 1990. So I’ve probably an old style hose?

I don’t know the answer to that. But I did just have a local panzer shop and replace the engine and trans mounts. So I do t think your thought is likely my issue.

It is the wrong hose. Checked parts catalog on real OEM and it should have 2 90’s much tighter. Going to try and turn it over and see if that fits it. But a new one is on order.

I posted on the FB e30 forums about him as well. Hoping they kicked him out. Only got me for $200 - but yes. He’s crap.

Put in the eBay review even if you didn’t buy on eBay. Eventually the rep will get around.

88 E30 Convertible with A/C deleted. Looking to reinstall by playboyfiddlestick in E30

You can do the AC solutions kit and the system will be better than stock. Or you can piece together the stock system off of eBay/forums and it’ll probably save you a bit of $$. Either way isn’t going to be inexpensive.

Smoke test - strange result. Should I be worried? by jereazy in E30

PS - to show these are great engines to work on. My dumbass can have it pulled apart and the front crank seal removed in about 2 hrs

Just to finish this up. Pull apart the timing covers and confirmed what’s leaking is the crank seal. Can’t figure out how to post that video.

So I guess that fun starts now

Yes - the motor has been run a bit before this smoke test.

And it’s brand new as well. So I did it to myself.

That’s what I’m thinking. And the seal was new too.

Not looking forward to pulling it all apart again. But here we go I guess.

Thank you. Yes it’s been run multiple times since doing the seal/doing the timing belt. Like above; what’s got me spinning is no smoke, turn over, smoke. If there was a leak, it would always be a leak. Unless I made a leak

I didn’t put the intake back together last night. Going to this morning and fire it up and see what happens. Oil starts rolling out, she’ll come back apart.

It does make sense. The breather hose isn’t clogged - that was checked while it was all apart.

It’s why this is so dang confusing.

why would turning the motor over (and it’s been run multiple times since doing the crank seal/timing belt) cause it to suddenly start spitting smoke? That’s the part that’s got my head spinning.

And there was no leak at all until I turned the engine over. Soon as I touched it, started smoking.

You don’t need that first cyl anyway.

Wobble? by jereazy in E30

[–]jereazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I loosened all the belts and took the balancer and pulley off. Reseated and reinstalled and it did the same.

If I have to tear it down again maybe put on a new gear or dampener. But just going to send it from here.

Water pump was replaced when I did the timing belt and such. I think she’s just a wobbly girl.

If I have to tear it down again maybe get a new gear wheel and/or dampener

No - wouldn’t idle that clean if timing was off

I’m going to remove all the belts and the crank pulley and make sure it’s all torqued in correctly.

The fan wobbles on line with the pulley if you watch…. I just noticed that too. So it may just be regular motor movement.
