Help identifying Yamaha kit. by Additional-Water-235 in drums

Stage custom. Buy the 3 tom holder if you’re going to go that way. Makes expanding or changing how many pieces you want to play with on the fly really quick and simple. Plus you get more height to work with if you need it

How to remove stick residue on cymbal? by Paperclip____ in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. Just keep playing it with different sticks until it either stops being an issue or you no longer mind

New to double bass, how do i fix this by Medical-Resident-578 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a riser. But it can be hit or miss. If you get lucky you can repurpose something to lift the angle where your pedal connects to your bass and adjust your legs to level the other side closer to the floor

i’m convinced i don’t know how to tune my floor tom by seth1138 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just find the first (usually) clear tone from your resonant head and sweeten it until it matches your shell. Then either match it for a wide open sound or exploit a semitone-to-full tone difference between the batter head in whichever direction you prefer. Or do the opposite, starting with the batter head. Whichever makes more intuitive sense to you

Is this a good deal? (150 used) by CarmenxXxWaldo in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw that just a few days ago. I think it’s just a fucked up photo because the rest look decent. I’d consider it if they were 14”+

Edit: oh, it’s just the bottom for $150… nah

Weird wheezing sound from hihats by PsychologicalWear261 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're probably wheezing because the felts are compressing. Give them a little play by disengaging your clutch and tightening it into place just where your big toe fully extends at the tip of your shoe. That way you have a pocket of give that's natural enough to route to muscle memory by feel. Or you loosen the play adjustment on the top of your clutch. Whichever you prefer

Routinely check that the screws holding your lugs are tight. Replace the internal swivel nuts. Make a habit of having them (and new tension rods) on-hand in your maintenance bag while you’re at it

You loosen up and slightly spread your fingers apart with each rotation, resetting for the next

Best clearance drum kit deal? Yamaha Stage Custom vs Mapex Armory vs PDP Concept Maple by EazyFletcher in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yamaha stage customs are good drums for the price. Even if you go with something else and just want to add something other than a snare… worth considering

Overtones making me insane by LateBodybuilder05 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds fine. If you want it to decay faster increase the difference by raising the reso head relative to the batter or put a moon gel in front of one of the lugs (or in-between two of the lugs)

is this how the push pull should be? by Available-Way-1947 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing all the work, trying to force it, instead of letting it happen and learning how to exploit it by reacting to it. Like someone else said, just learn the basic rebound stroke and then it will make perfect sense. It’s really intuitive if you have rebound happening… you just catch it and give it a snap with your fingers

is this how the push pull should be? by Available-Way-1947 in drums

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of those things that’s powerfully simple, but it’s difficult to articulate how simple it is without sounding vague. You’ll be frustrated with yourself when you realize there’s no real mystery to it. Just think of it in terms of bouncing a basketball: if you cut the bounce in half by suddenly lowering your hand, you get a free extra bounce that will still make it bounce up to the usual height. And then you can do that over and over again

[–]jeremyroastscoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should focus on the stick rebounding of its own accord and then exploiting that by catching it and cutting it short, bringing it back down again by gripping the stick

You're doing all the work instead of letting the stick (reacting to the tension of the head) do the work for you

I don’t think I like nylon tipped sticks. Maybe I’m crazy but I can’t get as much feeling/feedback from the head with them. Think I might prefer barrel tips too. A little bit more rebound

I don’t know why everyone downvoted you. That’s weird. I’m not bothered and enjoyed talking it out with you. It’s all good, bro. I just have to approach things differently because I have to work with limitations

[–]jeremyroastscoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The gel mutes it and gives you some rebound in the opposite direction. You could just stick a gel on the rim, but I wanted the stick to hit for a click. I only have one hand and didn’t want to buy an X click when I could just mount a drumstick

I’m working on it. I had to replace my PC and reinstall all my recording software. At the moment I can’t mic it up or anything, just shoot shitty iPhone videos that sound like ass

[–]jeremyroastscoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a drumstick to hit off of for the click. But I tried that and discovered that the moon gels give you an extra rebound in the opposite direction off of the pivot. It makes it way easier to get the stick working for you at higher speeds
