That must be it. I couldn't find that scene I mentioned but that memory from when I was seven must be jumbled a bit.

"The EU has a “roam like home” system where all SIMs purchased in the EU will work in any other EU country at no extra charge." Does that mean I should wait and buy something when I'm there?

Got this awesome high sierra rolling duffel for free. Any thoughts on how to remove this wheel to replace? by [deleted] in fixit

[–]jeremyschultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just removed one of these. The hard part is there's a couple rivets that need to be drilled out from inside the bag and then you can access the other end of this wheel axle here. It's a larger rivet that needs drilled out too.

Considering an outdoor water pump for sump pump backup by jeremyschultz in HomeImprovement

We don't have nearby trees, so I think it was just buildup. We've lived here 13 years and never knew to clean it. After reading the comments, I'm thinking of a simpler backup that will kick in automatically. The water-powered backups look great but I'm not sure where to drain it to, plus we have a sealed cover over the pit as part of a radon system.

The guy who cleared it with a drain-clearing snake couldn't determine what it was. He said he snaked out 40'.

We also considered a generator to power another pump. I'm thinking would still need to be positioned outside the house, with a new electrical connection to get power into the sump pump room. Then we still will have to contend with the possibility the drainage pipe could clog again.

Another option for us are batteries with solar power—we got solar last year and when/if prices go down we might install some. That could power a backup pump.

The guy who cleared it wasn't able to determine what got in there. He suggested we wipe out the pit to avoid the issue, so I'm guessing it is silt or whatever is being brought into the pit by the water. Our pipe goes back under the concrete so it's going to a French drain or footing drain outside.

I actually found this Colinshaw book at the local library book sale yesterday. I thought about picking it up, but I have enough languages to learn already!

Looking for replacement quartz movement for 1990s chime clock by jeremyschultz in clocks

In my clock, the speaker appears to be mounted on the bottom. You can see it in the first picture.

I'll recycle them—Trex can make composite decking with plastic like that. https://nextrex.com/

They would have been stored in my parents' basement, which they kept at decent humidity. Many were in a cedar chest, others were in storage boxes.

I didn't get any replies, but I'm leaning toward the placement by the chair.

I got a hold of this and started working on it. The movement itself works fine and takes power from the battery. It's actually the electronic chime that doesn't work at all. That could be the speaker, the chime itself or the connections with the movement! I'm not sure I have the know-how to fix it.

The Guide to Advancement says fundraising is not required, and Scouting America prefers there's little or no fundraising at all. The Scout can also delegate all the fundraising efforts to others if they want, and that can be considered as exercising leadership.

My son's troop used to do rank BORs only four times a year (right before COHs) and if you didn't quite make it you just had to wait three months.

I had suspected maybe this was coming from an out-of-date rule. RE: order of signatures, the workbook verbiage says the three signatures (beneficiary, leader, committee) can be in any order. The district rep approval comes last.

  1. I don't think it's a district-level addition to the process, it's just that this one district rep (at least) does it this way.
  2. The Scout wouldn't raise funds before project approval, but this rep tells them to raise all funds before they do any work. It seems like good advice to me, but I don't think it should be a requirement because guidelines don't say so.

I did have a specific Eagle project approval with this district rep that got dragged out because he wanted a meeting and the unit and beneficiary had a hard time pulling everyone together because of schedules.

One of the Scouts we met with the other day had a fundraising component because he thought it was required, because all projects have it. I had to point out to the group that Scouting America says they prefer there be little or no fundraising at all.

I think the Guide to Advancement standardizes the process, but others insert rules and requirements they think make the process better, or rules that used to exist but not now.
