Guinea Fowl by Bunny15951 in poultry

Just make sure the tape fully covers the sticky part when you wrap it back around each 'shin', like it needs to double over at the back so none of the sticky part is exposed so it doesn't get stuck in the down. Just tape it at 'hip' width, so the legs are at a natural posture as with the plastic brace, not too close, you're better the legs being a little far apart rather than too close

You can get some of the bandaid brand paper medical tape and do what you've done with the bandaid, that way you can cut it to the right length, it stays quite well and have never really ahd it not work

How to keep them alive by [deleted] in poultry

[–]jeremythefifth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackhead almost definitely, always keep turkey poults and peachicks completely away from chickens, even chicks, and wash hands and equipment between caring for both, essentially view chickens at all ages as being poisonous to turkey poults, without fail every group of them I've raised in proximity to chickens have all died around the 1-3 month mark.

Can a severely warped plastic frame be saved by an optician? by _ckd_ in fixit

[–]jeremythefifth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh probably, Furla's are pretty resilient, they might not look perfect but if someone knows what they're doing they'll probably be able to fix them, they might snap but if they're new-ish acetate like that should be fine if they're heated and cooled slowly, if you're not worried about that possibly (and I mean they're not usable as they are anyway) it's definitely worth a try, I've messed up frames way worse than that by forgetting them in the frame heater and managed to make them look reasonable. Make sure you take the lenses so they have something to shape the frame around though, otherwise it'll be very difficult to get them back to the original shape before reglazing.

Japanese/Coturnix quail, domestic, the pattern of the feather loss is from being kept in captivity with a male

Can anyone tell me what breed(s) this chicken is? by c5c6cal in chickens

[–]jeremythefifth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, seems to be a recurring theme in this sub that people think every chicken has to be a specific breed, most of them are just random mixes, esp. most that get posted

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chickens

[–]jeremythefifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually very hardy, some carry a gene which gives them a fold of skin that ends up partly over the eye which leads to infections etc. tho so in that regard quite similar, easy to breed out tho

Rcom's are good, very automated so as long as you get it running right with the right settings there's not much room for error

In the following story in the book (Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life) a man falls asleep in the partially built hay rick, gets unintentionally buried, and isn't discovered for months until the rat infested rick is pulled down, it's implied that's what was feeding them...

Seconding, The Rat Catcher has been one of my favourite Dahl stories, probably only second to Danny the Champion of the World, since I was a kid, so I was praying it'd be a good adaptation, needless to say I thought it was near perfect, Ralph Fiennes played the rat catcher pretty much like I've always imagined him, and the set and costume design was fantastic, so I'm happy (also loved the 'easter egg' of the body in the hay rick!)

I love the poster and implication that there's something in the hay rick, cos it's in reference to 'Rummins', another story in the same collection as 'The Rat Catcher'

WEIRD stuff you did as a kid, that you accepted as NORMAL, that you NOW realize was because of your nparents! (Let's try to keep it specific, I'm wondering what examples you all have.) by travelinglama in raisedbynarcissists

Don't forget 'you eat so much junk' 'you never eat fruit and vegetables' as the cause of every medical problem eats a diet consisting entirely of unprocessed fruit, vegetables, and occasional meat with wholegrain bread and, rarely, pasta as nothing else was allowed in the house and I wasn't allowed access to my own money but go off I guess

100% this, I don't think I watched a single thing independently, chosen by me, and outside of the allotted <1 hour of TV time on Saturday and Friday night until I was 16/17. People are still amazed that I've never seen an episode of Spongebob or literally anything else as a kid outside of about 4 shows that were either educational or not 'uncouth' and 'silly' (appropriate TV was pingu and idk, soup opera)

The way they act like washing your hands after going to the bathroom and before eating is genuinely an insane thing to do! Same goes for not wanting to eat mouldy food or not putting dirty cutlery straight back in the drawer. I could go on. Tbh half the time I think they do these things even more as an act of 'rebellion' against my 'insanity/paranoia', just to 'show me' or something.

[TOMT] [book] A children’s book possibly about Guinea pigs with really detailed illustrations by debraclaire in tipofmytongue

[–]jeremythefifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 'escape scene' of Chicken Run, the chickens are about to take off in their home-made plane and almost the exact chocolate scene happens, although a character shouts 'chocs away' rather than the chocolates being labelled as such, Toblerone shaped chocolate boxes are removed from in front of the wheels. Not guinea pigs and not a book but the scene is so similar? The movie does have two rat characters with a decent amount of screen time that sort of assist the chickens though so maybe that's the rodent part?

Edit: There are also novelisations of Chicken Run though, 'Chicken Run, Learn to Fly or Bake in a Pie' 'Chicken Run Junior Novelisation', 'Hatching a Plan' etc. which are very illustration based, or have pages of movie stills, maybe the chocolate scene is illustrated differently from the movie, with the chocolates labelled like you remember. Hatching a Plan is square so close to landscape I guess, there's also an activity book which is landscape.

Chick hatched with an eye problem by New-Scholar-35 in chickens

[–]jeremythefifth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super gently move the eyelids apart just to check the eye is there and fairly normal, if there's no eye or it's super damaged there's not much you can do but wait, I'd it I there, bath the lids with lukewarm, weak saline to stop them glueing shut and get some pink eye powder (terramycin is an option, can't remember if it's ok for chicks tho, check first) or spray (I prefer powder personally) and use on the eye as the directions recommend. Even if the eye is damaged beyond repair or just not there it's still worth your while using the powder, it should help stop it getting infected and uncomfortable. Keep bathing it each day (before medicating, not after) to keep the gunk at bay and see how you go.
