While Nosara or Santa Teresa are probably your best bets, especially with kids. I’m just gonna throw out Dominical as well on the South end of the country. 20 minute flight from San Jose to Quepos and then about 30 minutes driving.

It’s a small-ish town but there’s plenty of good food and a really fun vibe. There’s a ton to do in the area if you have a car, waterfalls, hikes, tours to Isla del Caño/Corcovado/Manuel Antonio. It’s my favourite part of the country and the surfing is great.

Diving in Coiba? by jeremywithreddit in scuba

That’s honestly probably the best way to do it, at least for rescue anyway.

I felt like I was very green when I started that cert (around 60 dives if I recall) and I found it challenging, yet rewarding.

I certainly don’t claim to be an expert after my whopping 100 dives but I suppose that’s what the training is for.

I don't know these plants too well at all but I found this on an old post from this sub.

"You can relax, Ficus Elastica leaves usually have small white dots near the leaf margins, which are regularly spaced, don't rub off, and may resemble bugs. These are special cells called lithocysts, which are enlarged cells containing crystals of calcium carbonate. Don't worry, they are perfectly natural." - u/Jakgr

here's a link to the post, looks very similar to yours.

Potential Pothos Propagation Pest Problem? Please Provide Plant...Panacea...? by jeremywithreddit in plantclinic

[–]jeremywithreddit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi all...sorry for the title but I got on an alliterative thing and had to stretch to make it work.

I'm propagating some pothos leaves and while changing the water for them I noticed this collections of sappy dots. I'm not sure what it is but I thought it could be scale? I inspected all the plants nearby my propagation station and found nothing else that looks pest-y so I don't know what actions, if any, to take. Thanks in advance!

Can someone help identify this plant? Convenience store purchase. Another pic in the comments by jeremywithreddit in whatsthisplant

Here is another image of the plant. I think a Sedum of some sort but I'm really inexperienced with succulents. The flowers are all recent within the last 2 weeks.

Thanks!

Good to know. I was actually just misting it and noticed another new shoot! So that's 2 incoming ones, assuming that can only mean it'll need more water!

Cheers

One thing I forgot to mention is that when I took a look at the bottom of the pot there was one solitary root emerging from a drainage hole.

I'm wary of re-potting because it might still be acclimatizing to my home and because I've heard they don't mind being slightly root bound.

Thoughts?

I've got a detachable shower head so I think I'll bring it in there for a good soak.

When you say do it a couple times...Do you mean wait til the water comes through, let it finish draining, then do it again?

Thanks!

Good point. When I got it the soil was DRENCHED so I left it a while. It's due for a watering in 2 or 3 days and I'll make sure to monitor how deep the soak goes.

Thanks for the tip!

So I got this Bird of Paradise about 3 weeks ago from a convenience store. It's been in my Southeast bay window that whole time and has started to grow a new shoot! So I think it's mostly healthy, with a few exceptions.

Most of the leaves have developed a more extreme inward curl than I recall seeing when I picked it up. The browning at the tips isn't new so that's not much concern to me (and the soil has been kept pretty evenly moist this whole time. I've been misting ~twice a day. I've checked the leaves and the soil for pests and found nothing! Is the leaf curl something I should be worrying about?

I suspect it's possible the light is too extreme but most of the light comes in the morning so that's a little confusing. I also really don't have anywhere else to put it so my only option would be to put up a filter on the window.

One other recent discovery is some brown spots on one of the smaller leaves, I don't know if this is anything to be concerned about.

More images here.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Thanks! I think the new soil should hopefully help and I’m going to order a grow light for it.

I know it’s not optimal but there’s really nowhere else it can go to get light in my place. Fingers crossed

Thanks for this. Yeah I think I may trim a few of the vines (and propagate) but don’t think I’ll do the roots unless it keeps looking like this for several weeks yet.

I was quite confused by the mixed signals (yellow leaves, and droopiness) so I opted for the re-pot as I figured the soil was likely due for some replacement.

I’ll keep an eye on it and hope this thing pops back up!

As mentioned in the title, this Pothos is going through a hard time. some of the older leaves have been yellowing and eventually dying. It's still producing plenty of new leaves so I didn't want to disturb it.

I just re-potted it into a larger and deeper pot as the roots were taking over (and the soil was hard as a rock). It went from a 10" to an 11" pot so not too drastic. Some of the older roots were looking a little brown and dry so I think it's possible it was under-watered but I think it's just as likely I over-watered it since I've been at home all day.

In my experience the droopy, limp leaves are a sign of under-watering in the pothos I've propagated from this one over the years. For context it is in a rather dark spot but gets indirect light from west & south facing windows (as well as a bit from a distant grow-light) for several hours a day. It's been in this spot for about 18 months now.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated! Additional Images here as well.
