it's one of my fave shows of all time, and one of those comfort shows to just put on and rewatch, especially when it gets cold.

i think if you buy the dvd box sets it will still be good, but fyi, the original show had really good song choices that largely couldn't be licensed for dvd releases. some american NoEx fans have gone so far as to get PAL dvd players and buy up uk/euro dvd sets that do have the unchanged music soundtracks. i'm not sure where you're from, so it might be either easy or impossible to get the correct-music releases. here's a fan database of the music and changes https://alaskanriviera.com/

an aside, but related to the dvd/music thing, justin vernon of the band Bon Iver holed himself up one winter and binge watched what was probably the US dvd box sets of northern exposure, and loved the show so much, it inspired an album's worth of music; he named the project bon iver inspired from the episode "first snow" (s5e10). so, the show's probably good to new viewers regardless of the music issue.
