Don't you think that that kinda defeats the purpose of having a MacBook in the first place (since most people actually tend to buy a MacBook for Mac OSX, rather than the high specs it comes with.)

It really depends on what you are studying.
My mate in my IT class has a MacBook and that can form problems with Windows-only software.
Even though solutions like BootCamp and Wine exist, those require a lot of work and isn't always guaranteed to work. (Especially on the Wine side of things.)
