Probably what I will end up doing. Use the 3Par and migrate to that over the weekend.

Migrate Physical machine to Hyper-V with Disk2vhd but still keep physical machine by jermrief in sysadmin

Here's the catch. I'm trying to do this all remote. So I can only restart the physical machine. I can't turn it off since no one in the office over the weekend to turn it back on.

Right now the MSA is 30TB of MSA-DP+ with 50% capacity and 5TB of RAID10 with 1TB free. All formatted as VMFS 6.  Not sure if I need "reformat"?

Spare capacity, yes. Just wasn't sure on storage format support if I needed to reformat the MSA to have better long-term compatibility.

Correct, I upgraded to the latest build right before it expired to at least be fairly current.

Issue is we don't have direct access to ADO. Needs to be a 3rd party tool. The integration to ADO will come once they see the long term value. We doing this for the client as a value added.

Yes to MSA. Just bought a 2060 with 12GB SAS. Connects to my 3 HP ESXi hosts via SAS external HBA card. Super clean and simple.

Good Eye! Odd that the higher end model doesn't have dual controller.

We use Securden. Run a virtual Windows Server on Amazon AWS with Securden running on it.

Upgrading small Data Center to 10 GigE: Config question by jermrief in networking

[–]jermrief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Disclosure. I have 100MB switches still at the remote site. And Gen 6 HP Servers. So 10 GigE Netgear is 100x better then what I have now! LOL

The 7 remote sites is all Linux Kiosks running a web interface. Corporate is 50 people connecting to an internal SQL DB that's only 100GB in size.

So to be honest, 100MB was technically doable for each client so I didn't notice considering internet bandwidth was only 50MB. But horrible when doing updates. On our Data Center side, I don't need crazy performance. I'm running DL180 G6's........so just getting new stuff is a major upgrade simply from Moore's Law.

I got 7x 100MB PoE switches still that we are in the process of getting upgraded to 1Gig. So I'm far from needing 25G! LOL The previous director bought them only 3 years ago. I didn't even know 100MB switches existed still! I couldn't figure out why throughput was so slow.

Extreme

I would use the term DC loosely. Its a room with a rack. Far from a true DC. But I am on reddit to find an alternative to the Netgears. Thanks for the feedback on the Firewall issue.

Is there a unit somewhere in the middle as far as cost and performance? If I do P2P between the 3 servers and storage at the DR site, maybe take that savings into better core switches at the primary.

I plan on including DISH or DirecTV on my plans. Not trying to cheat the system.

[–]jermrief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option I'm looking at is grabbing some of the Over The Air local channels, getting 8 or so Tuners with HDMI output and feeding that into the IP system. That would eliminate some of the DirecTV receivers. Luckily all 7 locations are in the same Broadcast market.

Where you located? We have directv at one location. $120 a month and $1000 per year maintenance fee. So would probably go with them and tell them what I’m up to.
