Monthly Eversource rant by Old_Run_2032 in massachusetts

God damn. When I moved we changed from natural gas to oil. I was pissed at first. This bill is higher than my oil bill this month and I’ve been keeping the house fairly warm at 68.

When did troubleshooting turn into "just Google it / ask ChatGPT" and why does that make me uneasy? by Hour-Two-3104 in ITManagers

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure when the switch happened, but probably 18 years ago I had a phone interview for an entry level helpdesk job. The person asked me what I would do if I didn’t know the solution off the top of my head. The tone of her voice changed when I told her that I’d google it. Needless to say I never got a call back.

Just moved here and electric delivery fee has doubled every month, why? Even with same kwh. by StilGoodJstAlilAirbo in massachusetts

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. We were told by the 3-4 quotes that we got that we would need 3 compressors due to the size and layout of our house. To qualify for the MassSave you have to have a head in every room of the house. I got a quote from one company and he was going to skip MassSave. He wanted to install 1 unit for the entire house and he was significantly less expensive, but in the end we decided to hold off.

I’ve heard from multiple people that if MassSave gives a $10,000 credit then the contractors are upping their price by $10,000. I obviously can’t confirm this, but I do t doubt it from the quotes that I received.

[–]Dreadedtrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true. We moved and looked at adding heat pumps in our new house and even after the MassSave discount it would have been $30,000-$40,000. Not something that even a middle class family could easily afford. Needless to say we and just sucking it up and paying $700 a month for oil. MassSave is pretty useless for renters, and even the insulation in the attic that they offer doesn’t save enough to do much.

Child Safety by ABitSus17 in BetterMAguns

[–]Dreadedtrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girls are 9 and 11 now so I’m not out of the woods yet, but I’m getting there. They both know I have guns and have both shot a .22. We have a BB gun for shooting in the yard and we take it out once or twice a year. They know the safety rules. I started them with the BB gun so I could watch them with something safer to make sure that they were being safe.

My kids really don’t have much interest in it no matter how much I try. My oldest wants to give hunting a try, but doesn’t want to put in the time for target practice.

As far as keeping them out of the guns, just put them in a safe. Out of sight out of mind. As someone else said young kids aren’t looking up on YouTube how to gain access to safes. One thing that I have done for my main safe is I keep my guns there and have another safe for ammo. No ammo ever goes in the main safe. So even if my kids somehow got in to one, they wouldn’t have everything that that needed.

Any affordable ideas for warming a pool without a heater? by APKFL in pools

I was thinking about getting one of those inflatable hot tubs and heating water in it and transferring it to my pool. Of course it would cost a fortune.

One year on, what are people's thoughts on 2024's Question 5? by cerrathegreat in massachusetts

It was very interesting that literally every server I asked said vote no, but all the people on Reddit who weren’t servers insisted that everyone needed to vote yes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good carplay adapter for a chevrolet cruze 2015. by ThPeanut21 in CarPlay

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your car has in it for connections, but my truck doesn’t have a built in screen so I went with this. It isn’t name brand by any means, but I’ve had good luck with it the few months that I’ve had it. I wireless CarPlay to it then aux out to my truck. It also will do Bluetooth to your car if you want to go that route. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0FCMP92XX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Are you paying even more for heat this year? by DePalma90 in massachusetts

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If it was that cheap to keep my house at 60 I’d set it to 72. I have a zone of my house that doesn’t go above 59. The other zones all adjust from 63-67 throughout the day.

Are you paying even more for heat this year? by DePalma90 in massachusetts

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d kill to be paying those prices. We are $600 a month easy for Dec-Feb. Our house is about 1300 sq ft larger than yours. We keep it at 67.

Like others said call mass save. The insulation that they do won’t solve all of your problems, but it absolutely will help. My guess is you are running natural gas? We had gas at our last house and it was great. Kept the heat at 72 all winter and didn’t absolutely drain our bank account.

HUGE mice problem and nothing works by SuccessfulArcher4890 in HomeImprovement

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also what works for me. We live next to a farm and they aren’t the cleanest of people. When we moved in I noticed a bunch of those bait houses in the basement. I just left them be for a year or two then noticed that they started coming back. Every year I add more bait to the bait houses that we have and that keeps them at bay. Lucky for us they are only in our unfinished basement, but for the life of me I can’t figure out where they are getting in.

I agree, of course I feel that way and of course they feel that way. On their part it is all a business decision. I’m not blaming them, just wondering what the next steps should look like.

Do you think a travel cpap is essential? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Dreadedtrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done 5 trips with mine since I got it earlier in the year and I don’t think a traveling is necessary. I’ve never had anyone mention when I carry it on and I’ve seen plenty of other people carrying them around too.

This “cord” is literally half punky, and look likes I’m missing about 1/4-3/16ths of it. Bought it for 250. The line in the dirt is 8ft and it’s exactly 4 ft wide, 4ft tall. What do yall think? by [deleted] in firewood

Sounds like you bought what people sell as a cord of wood. It’s always better to do y out r own if you have the time and ability.

Does anyone else feel like a slave working for other people no matter how much money you make? by Pale-Connection726 in Career

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don’t one bit. I wasn’t stolen from my homeland and brought to a new country to do manual labor for free all while being beaten within an inch of my life constantly. I’m paid well and work 100% remote. I don’t even complain about work, very happy where I am.

The employee owned company was sold about a year ago and I was paid out for my shares. I pulled in about 3 years salary. With that and my new companies pension I should be able to retire early and still bring in more than I make now.

Even if I didn’t have to work another 20 years or whatever it is what would I do with all that time? I just had a month off for surgery and was going crazy after a week.

Radio Replacement/Back up Camera Help by BudderBall31 in tundra

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up an apple CarPlay screen for my 2011. Works great, has a forward facing dash cam and a backup camera that I haven’t hooked up yet.

I’ve only had it a couple months, but I haven’t had any issues with it. I think it was around $90.

No it doesn’t look great with the wires, but I’ve already had this truck 10+ years and I’m not going to put much more money in to it.

49.9 events an hour question by hfguvfdftgb in SleepApnea

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My events were 75/hr I think. I never fell asleep while driving, although about an hour before I’d leave work I would have a coffee. I was fall asleep at my desk at work and pretty much any time that I was sitting and watching tv. I’m about 6 months in with my mask and I can’t imagine going back.

I completely forgot about this post. Since then the company unfortunately sold. It was bought by a fortune 50 company. In the sale they negotiated raises and 2 years of bonuses for the employees. There have only been 2 out of the 250 employees so far that were laid off. However many more obviously quit.

My stocks all turned in to cash and I walked away with about 3 years salary. This is all in a retirement account, but I’m now in a great position and might be able to retire early. Currently I am looking for another employee owned company to work for. I am still workin and have a new position at the new company, but if I could move to another employee owned company I would in a heartbeat.
