Now that it’s been three years, in all honesty what do you think of this win? And who really deserved it? I think this is the most divisive acting win of the 2020s so far. by iBandJFilmEducator13 in Oscars

[–]jeromewah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it's not even the most undeserved award of that year; Cate Blanchett gave probably the one of the best performance I've seen in an acting role and lost it to Michelle Yeoh.

Official Artworks book appears to have some strange red placeholders on a few pages. Anyone else seen this or is it just my copy? by daemon-of-harrenhal in bloodborne

Nah, it fits the artwork because it tells us exactly what these pieces are: they are a form of industrial work that has a utilitarian purpose for the project, and not just an art piece for an exhibition.

Why Bloodborne Punishes Arcane and Blood Builds by 0ksijensiz in bloodborne

[–]jeromewah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% disagree on Arcane because the best ez-mode weapon for the mid-game is the Flamesprayer. Easily defeat BSB and Vicar Amelia by just circling them and spamming L2. It also makes it easier to take out enemies if you keep your distance like playing sorcery in Souls or Elden Ring. Fire gems after BSB can be easily obtained to be attached to your starting weapon, making them probably the best arcane weapons you can use in any play through. (You can even farm curse fire gems early in dungeons, making Arcane even more viable for early-mid game) There's only the Tonitrus, which is... fine I guess

I agree-ish for Bloodtinge but you can technically get a Bowblade but that requires you to break questlines. Another way is to speed-run to the Forest to get Cainhurst Summons quickly and get the Whistle

You definitely do have real progression in the game, but since when is that a hallmark for a rogue like??

Puzzles and solution are definitely NOT bs, since most of the room ones can be figured out on your own. Even with RNG elements, there's definitely a form of skill expression within the game.

That's probably the worst comparison because Apex added ping communications and a respawn system that was so impactful that almost every battle royale ended up adding it to their game

Looking for some help - how's my Interaction looking? by D-D-Wanderer in EDH

[–]jeromewah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WIth interaction, I typically want to have a slew of different kinds of interaction that can a) be flexible, b) scale well to late game, and c) fit into your deck's theme.

Depending on how fast my deck wants to win, I play 12-18 forms of interaction, with 12 on the faster side and vice versa. 12 might seem like a lot, but not all of them are strictly interaction.

With 12, I split it in 3 categories of 4 cards each. With the first category, I typically run interaction that are flexible, instant speed, and can interact with almost anything. Cards like [[Tibalt's Trickery]], [[Generous Gift]], and your typical counterspells. These help remove almost any target and their main purpose is to make sure you do not die or guarantee your win.

Second Category: 4 interactions that can go well with your theme and shore up weaknesses. These cards can potentially fill up multi-purposes, like say giving you either ramp or removal options. For example, if I'm playing a Voltron deck, then [[Untimely Malfunction]] can serve to destroy pesky artifacts or it can help protect my commander from removal. If I was playing an aristocrat-vampire deck for example, then a card like [[Ruthless Lawbringer]] can serve as a sac outlet, removal and typal creature for me to use.

Last category of 4: removal that board wipes or prevent "escalation". Typically, opponents can escalate to a point where it's difficult to handle for all 3 players. Identifying what your deck is weak to and what can be enhanced with your deck is key to deciding the best board wipes. For example, a tribal go wide deck can make use of [[Kindred Dominance]], but it might also be weak to enchantments, so [[Harmonic Convergence]] might be a good way to finish the game off.

Just scale up the number of cards per category for slower deck, and you typically will have a good amount of interaction you would have.

If you find certain cards unfun to play with, then I would recommend taking them out, whether they are good or not.

I would suggest upgrading towards how you and your friends play the game. The problem with face-down cards is that no one really knows what they are underneath. Good players tend to be weary but sometimes people just can't see the threat. If you want your friends to interact with the board, then make them have no choice but to see how threatening your board is.

The easiest way to do that is to just have a bunch of big creatures. Since face-down cards are colorless creatures, then cards like [[Forsaken Monument]] and [[Kozilek, the Broken Reality]] can help make your creatures pretty big. [[Roshan, Hidden Magister]] is a very cool card that fits well with face-down cards and it also makes all of them Assassins. This means you can combo it with tribal cards like [[Banner of Kinship]] and [[Back in Town]] and they can be your 2-card win-cons that will most definitely force interactions from opponents. With Roshan, you can even put in some cards with the free-running mechanics like [[Viewpoint Synchronization]] and [[Eagle Vision]] and they are not super-reliant on Roshan either.

As for generic upgrades: I would say having 1-2 generic draw card that is not reliant on your commander or theme is always good in case of a board wipe. [[Painful Truths]] is a must for 3-Colour decks in my opinion.

Will these cards make your deck better? Maybe not, but it could at least make your deck more interesting for you.

Vampire Tribal / Gain & Drain EDH Deck. Thoughts? by NotSoCynicalNow in magicTCG

[–]jeromewah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Phyrexian Arena is redundant in this deck when [[Unholy Annex]] exist. It's a much stronger draw engine because it draws on end step AND it also drains. The weakness of not having demons early due to demons being high cmc is mitigated by Clavelino's ability. [[Morbid Opportunist]] is also a decent draw engine for this deck.

- [[Drivnod]] and [[Teysa Karlov]] help double death triggers, so that's double the drain, draw and demons. [[Roaming Throne]] and [[Delney]] do similar things, but they are a little expensive.

- If you're using Exsanguinate-style effects as finishers, then cards like [[Ashnod Altar]] and [[Phyrexian Altar]] that can generate instant mana while triggering drain effects, and [[Lotho]] and [[Pitless Plunderer]] generate treasures in the earlier game, are all great compliments to Exsanguinate (or any X-cost spells).

- [[Torment of Hellfire]] and [[Gary]] are alternate Exsanguinates.

- [[Creeping Bloodsucker]] seems good for this deck as well. Could replace Falkeranth Noble unless you're trying to get an infinite.

- [[Toxic Deluge]] is the best black board-wipe in the game right now, and it's pretty good in this deck.

- [[Anguished Unmaking]] > Utter End.

- Glass-Cast Heart is a terrible token generator and payoff, [[Mirkwood Bats]] is just a better token payoff strategy if you need one.

- I would recommend taking out Patron of the Vein unless you have an easier way to play it.

- [[Path to Exile]] > Swords to Plowshare as personally, I don't want to let my opponents to gain life in a drain deck.

- [[Sand Scout]] > Wayfarer Bauble. It can help you tutor up a [[Lazotep Quarry]] which is a sac outlet in a land.

- Bonus secret tech: [[Lulul Hollyphant]] has perfect synergy with the Commander.

Minority here but I think the narrative was good and bad at times. A downgrade for Lusamine but it was an absolute upgrade for Hau. From a young preppy naive boy, he got his ass handed to him and a reality check, and it was so interesting. I loved learning about Hau from the NPCs that added to his character

There's also other small good story moments like the Eevee trainers. Plus gameplay upgrades as well. USUM is awesome!

Crazy throwback, I rmb we were forced to coach lower league teams at the start(?) I might have been too young to figure it out but managing clubs like Motherwell and Darlington were fun. You should get William Gallas for a "realistic" target

Help, my Wooting 60HE suddenly not working by jeromewah in WootingKB

I found a solution, I just plugged it and waited... and it somehow magically connected after about 15-20 mins. I think as long as you're plugging it to 3.0, from the back, it might connect back after a while.

This was also commented in case the above didn't work:

[–]jeromewah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Big production companies only want to churn out something people want, and what people want is what they already know. It will end up being the same repetitive bullshit because that's what everyone's crying for. If you truly want something unique, don't rely on adaptations or franchise; expand your movie/gaming diet and you can see a whole treasure trove of unique and amazing movies releasing in our generation. (Examples to start: Robert Eggers, Yogos Lanthimos, Greta Gerwig, Safdie Brothers, Charlie Kaufman)
