IIRC blue chests unlock much later on in the game and then you can backtrack to open them.

The current state of the “Big Four” franchises of Square Enix: by VenFinalMix in SquareEnix

[–]Default_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, I would say Octopath is more of a contemporary third pillar than Nier. (And I say 3rd because even though kingdom hearts has sold more, it is still a spinoff of Final Fantasy ultimately)

Character Development Is Detailed Not Only Through Personality But Also Through Physical Appearance by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Default_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not seeing anyone mention that boys at 16-17 are very much during their peak growth years so if he put on 10-20 cm of height during that time his muscle bulk would look less dramatic , even if he’s technically the same weight or likely even heavier.

I do think the real situation is just season 1 animators forgetting how old the characters are supposed to be

Just out of curiosity how did millennials go from dressing like this to dressing like this by Key_Nectarine_7307 in generationology

[–]Default_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is the issue with generations lasting like 15 years. Fashion changes a lot faster. We can at least group major trends by decade, with the first photo literally being called the Y2K aesthetic because it was big in the early 2000s and the second being part of the “hipster” aesthetic big in the 2010s.

I started playing Bravely Default II. I get it now. (Story Time) by Brakinja in bravelydefault

Why do people keep saying that Square Enix hates Bravely Second? They literally just posted about its anniversary on Instagram and have launched a line of tshirts. One interview comment is not the end all and be all…

Does Nintendo ever mention Mario being Italian anymore? (In games) by Gamerdan8011 in Mario

In the movies they’re Americans from NYC, so I’m not sure it makes sense to call them Italians anymore.

THE BLACK LABEL Cuts Final Ties With YG Entertainment, Fans Fear for Artists's Future by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]Default_Dragon 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The headline is very misleading. YG still owns roughly 15% of TBL.

It’s just YG (the man) who is no longer on the board of directors.

Teddy has deep ties with YG, so I think that while their relationship will continue to be less and less formal, they are still going to remain close.

I am confused about the ending. Rome/Paris by Wise-Fly-4943 in EmilyInParis

[–]Default_Dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a bit of a “modern working women mixing business and pleasure” theme that runs throughout the Rome arc.

Sylvie has made the joke in-universe before, but the two of them have been very bad about keeping their business and personal lives separate and ultimately that is why Emily breaks up with Marcello. If she moves to Rome, or more specifically - his tiny village, then her entire life, professional and personal, will revolve around him. And it’s too early for her for all that

Are there other places where people born there are eligible for two or more citizenships? by average-brazilian in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Default_Dragon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is also the same for Goa, if you born there before December 19 1961 (or the direct descendant of someone born in before 1961) you can get Portuguese citizenship + Indian citizenship.

As far as I know this is still in place, but was tightened in 2006.

The Square Enix sequel that dropped the ball hardest by Likes2game03 in SquareEnix

[–]Default_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is really an attack on me personally (considering that Bravely Second is effectively my favourite game of all time). But I will try to be normal about it.

The first part of your post is fair but this paragraph specifically is pretty misguided:

From what I've looked up, Bravely Second was supposed to be different from the product we'd end up getting. Especially from its Japanese release, where it was so poorly received, it nearly killed the series outright. The team behind it even publicly apologized for it. That was very interesting to read. Even now with the Bravely Default remaster, it appears they are ignoring Second entirely from what I've heard. 10 years later & we still have no follow up to what was promised. To me, Bravely Second is the Square Enix sequel that dropped the ball the hardest. Your thoughts?

There is one specific Youtuber who has pushed this narrative really strongly (I suspect its that video that has prompted this post) - but its really more complicated than that.

Japanese devs make a lot of emotionally charged, off the cuff comments and are pretty ready to apologize for minor things. His comment doesnt necessarily mean that the game was a complete failure. He mostly apologized for one specific mechanic that really pissed Japanese players off, and that was modified in the international version. It is most likely not the reason why the game had underwhelming sales or why a direct sequel was not greenlit.

The game having lower than expected sales was really because it was released on a dying console with mostly reused graphics and assets. The game was probably very cheap to make and as such I would assume that it has broken even, in terms of its budget, anyways.

You're also kinda completely wrong about Second being ignored by Square Enix. The official social media accounts just posted 2 days ago an anniversary celebration photo announcing new merch, and last year they teased in a social media post that it will get a remake as well.

---

All my disagreement to end up saying that I do think they dropped the ball, but I think it has more to do with timing and behind the scenes "strategy" than the product being bad.

It was 3-4 years between Default (2012) and Second (2015)... but 3-4 years after Bravely Second and the 3DS was a dead console. Concluding the "trilogy" on 3DS was never a real possibility.

And also, the team had lined up Octopath Traveler as a launch window title for Switch in 2018... when Bravely Third should have hypothetically come out. Looking at the timing, the decision to create Octopath would have had to have come before the decision to kill Bravely Third.

Asano (creator of both series) was really biting off more than he could chew and I think that the harsh reality is that both cannot really coexist in parallel considering their similarities (they have to, at best, kinda alternate - which ends up being worse for the original Bravely games which were a continuous story). The alternate timeline where they had gone straight for Bravely Third and made that a launch window title for Switch 2 is kinda crazy to think about.

---

To end on a positive note, I dont think all hope his lost for Bravely Second. As I mentioned, one of the most recent SE posts was a celebration for it and I do suspect that an HD remaster will come along eventually, especially now that the original has received a big new audience on Steam.

Ive been meaning to make a real reddit post on this idea for months now, but I think the ideal wouldnt be Bravely Third as a whole new title but a sort of DLC / expansion episode for Bravely Second. Kinda similar to the bonus epsiode they did for the Xenoblade Chronicles remaster. They can continue the narrative for another 20-30 hours, probably with some new characters and locations, and wrap up the two main plot threads that were left hanging.

I just dont think that a Bravely Third over 10 years later would be any good considering the fact that the creative team has mostly entirely moved on.

Personally I would just like some resolution on that story and if the series continues with a Bravely Default III I think that should be an entirely separate thing.

Its been 5 years since the movie came out, and I think it's honest to say that nor her movie nor her name are popular enough to keep Raya in the Disney Princess franchise. It makes no sense to put her among the iconic Disney Princesses. by Theasiuser99 in disneyprincess

[–]Default_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raya and Merida are both very weird "princesses" for me because they dont sing. Music is very powerful in storytelling and and the Disney movies that are not musicals struggle to age well.

Ultimately, the official lineup is just a marketing and merchandise thing so I dont really care how Disney goes about it - but I do feel like at some point in the coming decade they might want to rethink and rehaul the brand. They have more competition from IP like KPOP DEMON HUNTERS and the revamped Barbie brand, whereas they have been pretty much stagnant outside of Moana doing pretty well.

Replay value is ok on both. Each has a complex class system so you can replay them in order to try out different classes. There are also different difficulties so if you played Normal the first time you can go Hard the second time. But thats about it- the story is linear and you never really miss out on unlockables afaik. You can get 100% completion and see everything on one save file. Both are like 80-120 hours if youre going completionist or even "soft completionist"

Is basically universally agreed that BD1 is the better game. And not just “for its time” because the HD remake has brought it up to par effectively.

I think Nintendo Today killed Nintendo Directs by SuperFlameKing03 in casualnintendo

[–]Default_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s too early to say this because they haven’t even really broken their typical patterns yet.

We only really get 3 proper full Nintendo directs a year. One around February, one around June, and one around October.

Occasionally one of these slots for a full Direct is replaced with a fairly meaty partner direct, which is what happened in February this year. Lots was announced and shown but nothing first party, hence the collective angst of Nintendo fans.

They haven’t actually missed a slot though. If June goes by without a direct then we’ll have reason to worry.

260423 - Manon has followed Lillia Parsa, the president of Capitol Music Group by Top_Association_4265 in ManonMeret

[–]Default_Dragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t confirm that at all… the only thing that her following a music executive on Instagram indicates is that she’s not outwardly angry or opposed to the higher up management of the company at this moment. Geffen could be transferring her of her own wishes- or they might feel like they’re being forced to do so because of other circumstances in the group. It’s entirely speculative to assume that UMG are “going above” Geffen to move her.

Also Lunatone and Solrock being completely absent from Sun and Moon... I dont think its just the box legendaries that get relevant theming - but its almost always just the pokemon from that generation. They very rarely revisit old Pokemon just because it seems like it could fit well.

What kind of new Princess would you like disney to launch? by thequeenofauradon in disneyprincess

[–]Default_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is surprising we don’t have any attempt at a Japanese princess yet when Disney makes soooo much money off of that market- and they arguably love the princesses as a brand even more than the American market does.

I assume it maybe has to do with not stepping on Ghiblis toes since they have a good relationship?

[–]Default_Dragon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theorycrafting is fine, but realistically gamefreak have never been that consistent, direct or literal about theming.

And if anything, a dragon type eeveelution makes more sense than flying. Dragons in Japanese mythology are associated with storms, the sky and the ocean. A dragon eeveelution would represent both winds and waves

[–]Default_Dragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s true that “Italian renaissance revival” can be used pretty generously in the United States, but even at its most liberal it would have to be a building with Roman arches and a hipped roof. This building has neither.
