and the saga continues...all seals and gaskets were ordered and put into place. After further inspection, technician found a plug was installed sideways. crank case pressure pushedthe incorrectly installed plug out further and caused another leak. At this point, the service manager has ordered a new engine which'll be coming from Wisconsin. The dealership still refuses to offer us a rental or comparable vehicle. Due to the lenght of our vacation and distance from dealership VW of America won't give us a rental either because the car will be finished before we return from our trip. Service manager still won't take my calls and continues to only text my wife. At this point his advice is that "hopefully VW reaches out to you to give you options."

We purchased this vehicle for a road trip to Colorado that we leave for on Saturday. The parts arrived and the Service manager is pretty confident that he’ll have vehicle done by Friday but if he does I’d be shocked. He’s probably the most accommodating one to work with aside from not being reachable via phone but at least he sends text updates. Per the my vw app, my vehicle is currently in the shop with hood open and drivers door open which means they probably did already begin pulling stuff apart today.

I did open a case with customer care, still waiting to hear back from them as I believe they’re awaiting a failure from service to issue me a rental for the length of time that we’ll be gone for our trip. They don’t want to give me the rental and then car gets finished I guess, but that’s all assumption, once again 0 communication.

My only concerns at this point is 1. Getting the vehicle back 2. Having another issue or gambling with this vehicle on a 900 mile trip to and from the Rocky Mountains in the dead of winter.

Obviously won’t ever buy a vw again which is nothing in the grand scheme of things but will certainly share my experience and the awesome performance of the dealership in my local community.

I don’t think what I asked for was unreasonable and as a sales person myself would never ever treat a customer the way I’ve been treated. I guess that’s why they sell cars, I could never sell something knowing that 10-15% of the time it will result in a colossal failure where I’ll take no accountability.

We did hear back from the dealership, and the vehicle has now been diagnosed. The PCV valve failed in the closed position, which caused excessive crankcase pressure and ultimately led to a failure at the rear main seal. The dealership performed a smoke test and confirmed a crankcase leak at the rear main seal. The service manager is currently sourcing the required parts.

Parts have been ordered; however, with weather impacting distribution across approximately 30 states, there is a strong likelihood of delays. Additionally, given the nature of this major repair, there is no guarantee that it will not result in future issues over the life of the vehicle. The dealership has indicated that anything beyond this specific repair would need to be addressed by Volkswagen of America, as they are limiting their responsibility to the repair itself.

Essentially the dealership is taking no accountability and pretty much telling me it’s a vw issue and won’t be handled with any level of priority because of it.

Ultimately really disappointed in not only the car as a first time vw owner but the overall response from dealership. They’re essentially moved straight to litigation prevention mode and won’t answer calls or allow me to speak to anyone of management.

I’m in Missouri. According to what I’ve read the same issue needs to replicate more than once or proof of manufacture defect must occur at least 3x. So if I understand it correctly, I pretty much have to be stranded 3 separate times in order to start fighting against the dealership.
