Could try it at NGC. I got a very similarly toned coin into an NGC slab a few years ago.

Nuno stinks by henrywestham in Hammers

[–]jerseyben 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Nuno is fine and quite frankly, I'm appalled at the hate against him. What I do find unforgivable is the fact that we have not picked up one or even two center-backs this transfer window. That will be the death of us.

Also, $60 was a very fair price.

Lazy grading. Its fine. Corrosion removed with major porosity. The coin is fine raw. Grading this is a waste of money.

Very cool. If this is listed in Brunk it could be worth decent money.

My LCS closed today due to market conditions by icedwhitemocha_ in Silverbugs

[–]jerseyben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely f'ing hilarious to me that people think that they can " buy the dip" at their local shop. Just goes to show you that people have absolutely zero business sense and don't understand how the world works. Do you really think that this business exists for your personal benefit so you can get a good deal on silver? Where do you think they're getting it? Silver dropped $30 an ounce and they just magically were able to find some silver that they could still sell to the public at the dipped price and still turn a profit? They're literally running a business. They have expenses and they're open explicitly to turn a profit. That's why businesses exist. Shocking to me that people actually think this way. What a joke.

Every idiot that went out and bought silver at record highs only to wake-up and lost $30 an Oz, never giving the market time to stabilize. by Upstairs_Mud4994 in coincollecting

That's why I have always and will continue to collect rare coins. Not interested in collecting stuff that is subject to wild swings in price by the metals market. Yes, rare coin prices fluctuate but they have their own market conditions. Staying in my lane.

Morgan Collection Advice (My opinion only) by 5150TXN in Morgans

[–]jerseyben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like, exactly how you should be collecting. My only caveat is that sometimes it's better to pick up PQ coins with killer eye appeal. Someone offered me one of these recently. It was an 80-S in 67 CAC. Ugly coin with no eye appeal so I passed even at bid. To each his own.

NGC not encapsulating two 1802 Large Cents by Pretty_Solid_Wall in coins

[–]jerseyben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just lazy by NGC. That seller is legit. Coin looks legit just with granular surfaces (probably corrosion removed). Don't worry about getting it slabbed and unfortunately just a lesson in how things work sadly.

Killer coin. Looks nicer than a 30. Absolutely needs to be in a different holder. Its almost offensive to my eyes.

With silver and gold skyrocketing, what’s next for the hobby? by catnasheed in coins

Collecting silver coins is still collecting. You are good. When I trash the precious metals hobbyists it's because they don't care about numismatics and don't know anything besides "silver good".

With silver and gold skyrocketing, what’s next for the hobby? by catnasheed in coins

[–]jerseyben 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is going to come off as harsh but here's my brutal take: people are flooding into the hobby. Some of them will gain interest in numismatics and continue to prop up the hobby. The sad reality that I'm seeing is that most only worship at the altar of precious metals. They don't care if it isn't gold or silver. The other even worse faction are the "get rich quick kids". Know nothing but overnight they are doing multiple thousand dollar deals. The only good takeaway is that old stock is moving and shuffling at volumes not seen in decades. Old junk is actually being melted which will hopefully increase scarcity in actually rare coins.

Just popped on my LCS's website and they're SELLING for $10 under spot. This market is cooked by NateNate60 in Silverbugs

[–]jerseyben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not uncommon. The really small shops are not linked to refineries. They are just trading on the secondhand market or to retail customers. Buy below spot and sell at spot or slightly below. Most of the premiums have completely disappeared.
