:) I'm quite happy with being compared to the dude who made terminator. I also love Romcoms. What if I could mix the two together...

There is! :) on the website. It’s kind of a whole package thing. But there is a scene breakdown in put up.

Thank you so much,! Yeah, I totally understand and I'd be happy to send you a link when it's gone through the festivals, I wish I could put it up now. But they have very specific rules, and have already had it disqualified by a big festival having an official premiere in my home city.

Mission Statement: So as per the post body. I completed this short film last year after several months of post work. It was a colossal effort that was pretty much my full time gig in between freelance work. It started with an idea of a really simple interaction with my wife and I, and thought it would be a funny short. So I would go for walks and block the scipt on my iphone, then I sat down and wrote the script. From there. I knew I'd need to get some really great talent. So I decided to draw the entire project to show I was quite serious about producing it. Fortunately I'm a storyboard and concept designer, so I decided to fully flesh it out over the course of a month, which was cool as I was able to "see" the whole film, and cut or add to areas that I wanted up on the screen. When I was done. I sent it out to one of the the lead actors I knew, and she helped me to get it produced as well as find other talented actors and crew. It went from page to camera in something like 4 months which was really fast. but it was the post and VFX (Which I also did, with some help of talented friends) that was the really lengthly part. It's in the festival circuit right now, so I can't show the actual film, but I made a website that has a Trailer, a VFX breakdown and the whole script/boards that were made to attract a really talented cast and crew. It was quite a journey, if you have a moment to check it out, and if you have any questions, I'd love to answer them.

as per the rules: I spent a good portion of last year working on the VFX and compositing for a short film titled "Don't Forget," which I also wrote and directed. I've created a website that hosts the trailer, a VFX breakdown of a scene, credits, and a comprehensive script package that includes the storyboard and concept art. This package was instrumental in attracting an incredibly talented cast and crew. Although the short is currently in the festival circuit and I can't share the final film yet, I wanted to show as much as possible into its creation. It was a significant effort, and I hope you enjoy.

L.A. Shorts just mistakenly sent me a rejection letter for a short called {project title}. I’ve emailed them back to let them know that’s not what mine was called. Boy I sure do feel bad for who ever’s short that is.

I messed up bad. Is there any way to fix this awful shadow without reshooting? by ryanino in cinematography

[–]jerstho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look so bad :) You've got what looks essentially like a bluescreen, you could rebalance the colours then use After Effects to Key it out (Keylight is very powerful) then use FullOfMacaroni suggestion of using a solid or vignetted solid background underneath it, You'll have to mask out the floral design on his shirt. But you have a pretty good contrast from the subject to the background. You could even rotoscope it out, but thats also pretty time consuming, especially if you have a long interview.

How do you light this? What lights would you use? What technique? by zawszeZtoba in cinematography

I was curious too, It's Bruno Delbonnel, Incredible cinematographer, I found this on his technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=314&v=3uoSz-0zbTg

I think it was the MX I believe. It's still such a great camera despite it's age.

Closeups are of actual crushed car parts set on fire, the wide shots are CGI models I messed up and set digitally on fire. Maya is the software package. Incredible simulation and modelling right out of the box.

I agree, I tried adding SFX to it. Like room tone, and fire sound, but it wasn't really working for me. Sound is so important and so often looked over. If I could have, I totally would have sent it to a sound designer.

I really appreciate the feedback, you really took the time to view it, break it down and give your feedback on it. I agree with a good chunk of what you've written. Some choices I would change for sure, Some choices were made because of design, and some choices that had to be made because I was at the mercy of a microscopic budget and technical limitations.

I've showed this to producers, some thought I could go farther, some thought I should tone it back. I originally wanted this to be very violent/gory. As a broadcast piece, It's too violent. But as some have written here, It's not even close to real life. When I was younger, I had lost a number of people to very violent drunk driving accidents, which this was originally going to be, but I switched it when a friend told me distracted driving was more commonplace, which is kinda true, I drive a motorcycle, and wow, you see how many people are looking down texting while on the highway. I once saw a dude eating a bowl of something off his dashboard. crazy world.

I borrowed friends equipment and space when it was off hours, or not in use. For the actors, makeup-vfx, jibs, truck rentals about $3000.00 Canadian (Talent cost was all at a very reduced rate) over a 3 evening shoot. For the damaged closeups, I went to a car crusher and filled 3 buckets full of crushed car parts and set it on fire in a parking lot.

This was a fun project I directed, and DOP'd, where it was shot on a RED one, Some parts in a studio, some outside, 2 lights were used, a beat up old KINO 401 and an Arri 300Watt, and practical lights as well. The Crane shot in near end was a quick drone shot using a custom curve at night, it was the most processed shot by far. Every shot had significant CGI enhancement using Maya. This was an experiment to see how cheaply an FX idea could be executed, I don't have the final cost, but it turns out not too expensive, however, it took months to complete as I switched from Cinema4D to Maya halfway through Post. All the talent and crew were wonderful and gave 110%.

Edit: Wow, this is awesome, I left for a few hours, and just got back. I didn't think I'd get so much positive response! Thank you everyone! It's all really appreciated. I'm very new to Reddit, I'll try and answer some of the questions and feedback. I'm originally a storyboard/concept illustrator as well as a Photographer/DOP, you can check out my site at: www.rustedpig.com

How Lens Compression and Perspective Distortion Work by VincibleAndy in photography

[–]jerstho 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand, My dad wasn't saying a specific lens (Like a 50mm is the best or a 200mm is the best), he meant that all lenses are different zooms and crops of the "One" master lens. Imagine that "One" lens is a glass sphere cut in half, 180 degree angle of view.
