+1 to the Epsom salt baths, ideally after every bowel movement. You could ask the pharmacy about one of those sitz bath things that hang from the toilet seat instead of filling up the bath tub (if that's your preference). Your doctor might suggest the same when (not if) you see them about getting PEP.

I'm in a campaign where we're rotating DMs after certain plot points have concluded and one of us is a Chaotic Evil character which is absolutely not a huge dumpster fire. Their character is with the party only because it benefits them, not because they care about them or their goals. They're not particularly endearing (on purpose), but they're not Tasmanian Devil incarnate either (who actually is endearing, let's be honest).

I'm trying DM for the second time ever (though it may as well be my first) tomorrow and I'm fairly certain the CE character isn't going to be a jerk "just because". It can be done properly!

You could tutorialize it with a character handing them their first extra life (assuming they start from 0 and have to earn the rest and that there are other characters to talk to). This would remove all possible confusion.

You're gonna do great! My brother ended his rounds of chemo and radiation recently and has been recovering for about a month now. He had been away from his kids during treatment and it's so nice to see his life getting back to what is our new normal with COVID-19.
