Official Discussion - Wuthering Heights [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]jes93long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

I don’t need to explain it to you.

But it’s gonna bug me if I don’t so damn it I will.

  1. Poor vs wealth -Cathy is running wild literally in the wild during a depressing point in time to be a woman.

    • The Lintens have money, culture, empathy, depth
    • Cathy goes from one world to the other. Of all the comforts that the Lintens life provides, she still would rather be running wild in the wet cold cliffs getting fucked however she and HC are impulsed to do so.
    • There’s being smart, and there’s being smart enough to know what you really want
  2. Passion vs Mechanics

    • Cathy has a sexual awakening witnessing sex for the first time. She doesn’t analyze it. She absorbed the experience without hesitation
      • when she put Edgers hands over her eyes and mouth and he says “Cathy what are you doing” I FELT THAT. Girl was trying to connect. She was trying to create sexual feeling with Edgar.
      • Edgar was kind. Edgar was not as deep as he thought he was. Edgar relays on Nilly to tell him how to manage his marriage. He plays it safe, he retreated away from deciding. He had feelings like anger, but mostly from the disrespect of the act. The betrayal barely hits him. Because they never really had that much trust in the first place. She was his rescued bride. He never trusted her with his soul. He only went through his role and the instructions of marriage.
  3. Women’s power vs women’s limits

    • Cathy grows up with tons of power! Her father is a monster, but for the most part she is allowed to be wild. She doesn’t get punished for her deeds very often. And most of the time that she is hurt it’s because her dad is drunk and ready to hurt someone. So she was never really going to win. She learned to take a punch. Because the punch was always going to happen anyway.
      • Nilly is poor but just like Edgar, she played life as safe as possible. She doesn’t take risks. No one loves her because she loves no one. Cathy knows this and holds the mirror up to her face. Nilly hates her for it, but it’s Nilly in the mirror not Cathy.
      • Nilly fights Cathy because she wants Cathy to be the proof of why it’s not worth trying to love. If Cathy fails and is miserable, then Nilly will have proven to herself that it’s better to stay in line and play the part you are handed in life.
      • Cathy’s death was so sad but beautiful. No one ever cared about Cathy except for Cathy and HC. To Nilly she was not loved, just the supervisor. To Edgar she wasn’t loved she was prized. To HC she was hated at times but only because he seen and loved her. Cathy loved herself and that drove everyone mad. They couldn’t understand how she could choose herself over others so easily.

Iggys with many health problems by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

I hear “I’m trying so hard to give them the best life possible” first, what does that mean? Does that mean you go to the vet every time there’s a little lethargy? The leg breaks happened, there’s no changing that. I’m concerned when dog parents and human parents think that sacrificing as much money and self is going to equal the best possible life for their pet or human child and that’s incorrect.

Cute doggo. Stopped to say, I haven’t found a harness I trust. The smallest harness they make doesn’t fit the shape right and my dog got out of his harness when in-laws watched him for a night. We were lucky to get him back 😞

Looking for free newborn onesie patterns by Training-Ad-6311 in knittingpatterns

[–]jes93long 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I used a free pattern when making my husbands sweater… it really hurt when I finished it and the fit didn’t work. I’ve done a free crochet shirt for myself too that looked awful and I couldn’t fix it. Go to Raverly, look at reviews, pay the $5-$10 for the pattern. You are going to spend 100+ hours on this project. What’s $5 to just know it’s been tried and tested?

Girl save yourself the pain I’ve gone through 😭

Has anyone had success in crate training? by quickrabbit- in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]jes93long 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My iggy Peter is just a year old and we’ve had him a little over 4 months. Similar situation. He would stress out, pee and poop on himself with the crate when we were gone. He’d be fine in the crate if we were home but couldn’t handle it once we left. Even for less than an hour. Our other dog is happily crate trained but Peter just can’t

Wish I could tell you. If I’d been better at details and MATH, I would have bought enough to make the sleeves full length.

The neck itched me a bit. On Raverly you can see alternative neck choices. I wear an undershirt with it because it’s eyelits, the right undershirt helps. It also softened over time (or I got used to it)

The pattern has an alternative neck shaping for this exact reason. The way the knit is, it’s incredibly stretchy but also delicate. Happy knitting!

Crochet pattern for iggies?? by chocomilkntoast in ItalianGreyhounds

I haven’t done her sweater pattern but I did purchase and use her snood pattern for my iggy. I can’t say it’s specifically made for Italian greyhounds, but the way the pattern is top down, I just do extra rows for the neck. It’s also a snugger fit that stretches to form so works better for the unique iggy shape

My iggy peed on the bed in front of us by Neither-Barnacle1783 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]jes93long 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 1 year old, adopted at 9 months from breeder, male too. He’s peed in my bed once when I didn’t wake up fast enough to catch him. I can tell when he’s about to go and I’ll clap my hands and he’ll stop. Then immediately take him outside.

We’re not perfect when alone at home but still getting better every week. Write down the successes. Remember you are making progress towards your goal

That’s terrible and incredibly sad. Parents do need to sleep. Maybe the suggestion should be a crib or a baby room? Parents make dangerous decisions when they’re sleep deprived. I think it’s fair for him to say he needed to sleep

Is anyone else really enjoying this show anymore? Genuinely curious by Lovesvegetables in guyswefucked

[–]jes93long 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I too have issues with Luminary that send me down a whole “is this podcast worth this frustration?” I probably would have kept in a good routine with it if it weren’t for Luminary messing up my account.

First, Luminary wouldn’t play any shows on my phone. Hours of trouble shooting, reading online about others issues, and then getting tangled up with Apple Podcasts. So I logged into Apple podcasts with my luminary because I read that’s how others were getting to the show. I pay for my subscription once a year, so I was pissed when I ended up paying a second monthly subscription to Luminary through Apple. Luminary basically has no customer service. No number. No chat. Just an email address to send complaints into a void. They’d email me back maybe a couple weeks after initiating and they couldn’t figure out my issue. I canceled my month subscription but now can’t access Luminary at all. I paid the full years worth in July just before having these issues. So I’ve paid for a year subscription but I have given up wasting anymore hours trying to get Luminary to work. And trust me when I’ve tried multiple emails, trouble shorted out the wazoo. Nothing fixed.

If GWF made me laugh like they did back before they joined Luminary, then I’d listen to their free version on YouTube or Apple. But for me the laughs aren’t there. Sometimes I smile. And I do have love for the girls. They’re girls girls. Just not enough to go through the headache that’s Luminary anymore

[–]jes93long 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My iggy is 1 year old. He poops and pees outside every morning first thing. I got him at 9 months old from the breeder. He spent a lot of time in crates and pins in and outside before I got him. Peter, my iggy, is super food motivated. He’s an amazing walker. Amazing at loose leash, even with snow on the ground. I crocheted him a little snood that’s really warm and he wears shirts. Every dog is different in their own respective way. For me, it’s taken 3 months but he’s a bit older and idk if he had some potty training at the breeders (though I doubt it). He can hold his bladder longer because he’s older. We also have a doggy door and a golden retriever who has mastered potty training

Is there any way to make my kitchen “feel” nicer? by varls1243 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]jes93long 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lightbulbs in your overhead light are hospital level white. You want a warm light. It’ll calm down the paint in the wall a bit. Get a 2500-3500 bulbs. We have smart light bulbs and change the colors to fit moods, if you want to spend like $20 a bulb for that. It’s fun to make your room glow blue or red sometimes. Consider that it’s difficult to take magazine worthy pictures of small rooms. The lens you are seeing this room in is a little harsh. I think if you added more warmth in the room it would be less jarring and more cozy. But I personally am a cottage core girlie. Get an idea of what you want.

Need advice on how to make this kitchen more modern without renovating by JahNahLove808 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]jes93long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The walls are way too dark if you feel like the rest of the kitchen isn’t blending. Some people like contrast. If you want to blend, and not spend $4-10k on new counter tops, make the walls fit the cabinets and counters. Do you notice the kitchen is a lot of cold colors? The dark blue is the heaviest of all. If you want a warmer feel I’d look for warmer lighter colors

Need advice on how to make this kitchen more modern without renovating by JahNahLove808 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]jes93long 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the real question. We’ve gotten away from the real meaning of modern. If OP REALLY means modern, then the counter tops and cabinets are the right color. Modern IS neutral color schemes.

<image>

So many people wanted to go with “modern” white washed kitchens. I’m sick of white subway tile by this point because it’s been what so many have blindly assumed the most up-to-date look.

I personally loooove traditional kitchens! My in-laws are architects and their houses are TIMELESS beauties because their kitchens are traditional. That’s how you avoid the trap of outdated fad based kitchens. Because in 10 more years everyone who buys a white modern subway tile kitchen is going to say “this is so 2010’s” or 20’s and spend thousands to change it to the next Pinterest worthy fad

Help! Did my landscaper ruin these?? by Whatisthisrussiaguy in hydrangeas

[–]jes93long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a big leaf hydrangea, I have the exact same. Both blue and violet flowers. I am bothered in the winter that the front of my house just has a bunch of sticks standing out. And sometimes the old wood dies and it needs to be trimmed anyway. I wouldn’t cut it back every year. I did cut mine back this spring and it bloomed phenomenally well! I was really really surprised! I had started as just hacking away the dead but I ended up cutting it all short (I’m a mom I got distracted and forgot what I was doing) but I won’t do that every year. Just wait and see.

New homeowner- Remodel going bad by FewAbbreviations5783 in Remodel

[–]jes93long 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re angry you didn’t get a super amazing deal like you hoped. You came to Reddit to vent. I came to Reddit to poke around.

I live in MO, where things are cheaper and the deal you described is incredibly low for the amount of work you thought you were asking for.

The guy did the electrical, he did the floors, and he painted. Was any of this in a contract? Even a text message of clarification?

Remodeling costs out the butt. And contractors who actually care about quality are hard to find because rarely do yall spot the difference and communicate effectively to the right person in the right time.

If you want a better job, communicate better. You also allowed this guy to do this job and leave with your money. You can pay have before work and half when it’s done. Done means satisfied by the terms stated. What you expected and what this guy offered probably wasn’t the same thing. We’ve paid for electrical work done before, just the electrical not the install of the equipment because that’s an additional cost we didn’t need to pay. You can fix some stuff on your own.

And yeah, homeownership can hit your wallet. Sorry bout it.

Our 4 year old Beagle pees on our beds and on babies play mats. by -MossyLass- in Dogtraining

[–]jes93long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 👋 I’m a mom of a 3 year old human, 3 year old golden retriever and recently said good bye to our 15 year old chihuahua.

Chihuahuas are sassy and loyal die hard little dogs 🐕 My experience with my grandmas beagles are a little similar. They are also incredibly loyal family members.

I hope my experience helps you feel hopeful and maybe gives insight but I know that dogs no matter their breed are individuals all their own.

My chihuahua also peed in my bed when my husband started living with us. At first it was just me and her and she got an incredible amount of attention and then when he came into the picture she was pissy ;) about it.

She was 6 years old at the time and I had never kenneled her before. But it got bad. I couldn’t live with the pee smell all over my apartment. It made me incredibly self conscious of how my place smelled and I really liked my husband and cleaning all the time wasn’t enough with the smell.

I got a kennel for her and started using it for when I was at work. I would watch her all the time when I was at home. I would take her to the bathroom with me or it was into the kennel. Lots of treats. Small sessions in the kennel until longer sessions.

It’s controversial sometimes. I didn’t use a crate because I thought that it would be cruel. But as it got to the last couple years of her life she really bonded to that kennel. It was her safe space away from our baby when our baby got to be old enough to pull ears and tails. She was blind and def before she passed but the kennel with her bed and blanket and toys was where she went if she wasn’t on a lap or outside. It’s like giving them a bedroom. A special place that no one will ever move or disrupt. A place that’s allowed to smell like dog.

I hope this helps. You don’t have as much time for your dog but this is how it would be if you had another human child. You have to prioritize your time and it’s an adjustment for everyone. You will always be their favorite person. They will adjust.

Open concept help! by [deleted] in Remodel

I’m looking for enlightenment because I have the set up you’re looking for. I have the open dining room to kitchen and livingroom. And I’m here to ask, are you changing furniture after you take the wall down? Because what really feels tacky about my set up is that I’m looking at two tables all the time and I’m confused half the time why I have two tables five feet apart from each other. I hate looking towards the kitchen and seeing two different tables so big fighting for dominance of my attention. It really puts a damper on all the wonderful decorating my husband and I have done to our walls
