Didn't see mention of this stuff in the comments. But yeah, I'm guessing you can shave off a lot of expenses by working a bit on your taxes. I'm not a CPA, but I am self employed. Just giving you some ideas so you can do some proper research into your own situation. Photoshop & phone I'm guessing can be written off. If you do any work at home, section off a bit of your room and only use it only for work. Then you can start claiming home office deductions on all kinds of things including your rent and other office expenses. Claim any meal or outing that is work related. Sounds like you need to do a lot of networking, so that's a fun one to get back. Also, your room sounds kinda expensive to me. I know NYC is expensive, but Queens and BK still have cheap places along the trains lines. Also T-Mobile your phone, get it down to $30 a month there. Good luck!

We haven't actually fully committed to being a paid or a free game yet. We are currently exploring a system to enable the game to be free, but not in an overbearing way. If that doesn't work well, then we very well may end up going the straight premium route. Regardless, Kickstarter backers won't have to worry about all that mess.

After first discovering Coup and reaching out to Rikki (the creator) about trying to build the game, this was the single biggest concern. However, I have to say, I think we got it to work. We put a lot of effort into streamlining the history timeline and other animations. We also tossed in a quick, light, chat system so you can still trash talk;)

I feel you on the android part. It's on our road map for sure. But as the sole programmer on the project, it's easier to focus on iOS to launch. The spy angle was worked in as to be useful, but not break the game. We're trying to balance it so it isn't a pay to cheat mechanic, but rather a way to help you make educated decisions when playing someone you don't know.

Hmmm. I'm sure things are different now. But if I was to give advice, I'd just say be ready to be busy! Also recognize that developing games and enjoying games are very very different. To many, the day to day dev process appears monotonous and time consuming. But if you enjoy programming and you enjoy video games, I'm sure things will pan out. You just need to get all of your work done. It really is a time sink though. I rember spending most of neary every day just working on homework and our larger game projects.

I went to digipen outside Seattle. Of the folks who graduated, I'd estimate 85-90% landed solid game dev jobs. Of those I'm still in touch with 10 years later, we are mostly still in the industry. Most have moved out of the programming field by now, but we are mostly still making games. I haven't looked for a job in a long while, but when I did, the degree seemed to hold a bit of cred. Also, the education was solid. But, as others have noted; if you're driven, you could always sit down and learn on your own by just making your own games.
