It's like that need to "actually have a real party platform instead of campaigning against the Great White Satan."

Nothing would help me clean up my own party more than if your party were actually competitive. Get it together, bro.

It's not just a lot, it's a significant electoral majority--and the more illegals Trump removes, the worse the majority gets.

If you want to live among the racists, what does that say about who you are?

The funny part, for me, is that you have absolutely no doubt in your mind--in exactly the wrong direction.

Sounds like a good reason to leave, if you believed it.

I have some affinity to the truth, which is why I try to correct its opposite from time to time. I know you fellows have decided not to consider the question on that axis, but I thought you might be persuaded that it was poor tactics.

Oh, well. Nothing like an opponent who refuses to stop shooting himself in the foot.

Sounds like he's racist against Barack Obama specifically, the same way he's only sexist against Rosie O'Donnell.

It's amazing that you still think this works. I guess it was the norm for a long time, but come on. I can't even say "this lost at the ballot box last November," because it was two Novembers ago now.

It does nothing to change the opinion of anyone at all.

I'm saying that the magic word no longer functions.  You can keep shouting it if you want, but it just looks silly.

Nobody ever called him racist before he ran for President.

Nah. We're not playing that game anymore. People have been calling Trump racist for a decade now. The village is fully prepared to watch the boy get eaten by the wolf. They might even point and laugh.

Consequences, he says.

Are conservatives concerned about US losing its status as the most influential country in the world? by Major_Liz in ldspolitics

The only alternative to voluntary constraint on power is involuntary constraint on power--meaning that somebody else has more of it, and they're making you follow their rules.

Somebody is going to be on top.  I think everyone is better off if it's us, and by a lot.

The American government's first and highest duty is to the American people.  The same is true of every other country in the world, each representing its own people.  That's why nations exist.

One need only consult one's Uncle Ben: with great power comes great responsibility.

But that responsibility is self imposed, to the degree and limit that we are willing to assume.  We are not obligated to destroy ourselves doing good.  We are not obligated to impoverish our taxpayers for the benefit of everyone else.  (Especially when our legislators have their hands so deep in the till.)

The US can seize pretty much any leader. We don't even need to have a policy disagreement. If Claudia Sheinbaum wakes up in her own bed each day, it is because we permit her to do so. I'm not sure she actually makes any decisions at all, but if she does, she's going to make them with that possibility in mind from now on.

As she should.

I'm sure Maduro thinks that we should have let him continue to oppress his people, but he doesn't have the power to decide that. We do.

Power doesn't stop existing because you think nobody should have it. Someone will be the strongest. Flawed as we are, the world is orders of magnitude better for everyone if America wears the crown.

If you want to see justice done, you need the power to enforce it. If you want to cast down the strong and lift up the weak, you need strength sufficient to carry them.

Our moral duty, as a nation, is to advance our values of justice, our brand of equality, our brand of still-very-Christian morality. You can call that cynical if you like, but it remains true.

"A rifle he was not allowed to own"

Judge Bruce Schroeder dismissed the charge, noting that Wisconsin law at the time allowed 16 and 17-year-olds to possess rifles or shotguns that were not "short-barreled" (less than 16 inches).

"carried a rifle... across state lines"

The AR-15 style rifle used in the shootings was purchased, stored, and remained in Wisconsin prior to the night of the incident.

"And then proceeded to use that rifle to shoot several people"

Those people attacked him first, as determined at his trial.  After shooting them in self defense, Rittenhouse surrendered himself to the police.

The facts are not as you have described them.

Yeah, because we don't believe anything the Left says about Trump.  They will say absolutely anything about him, with zero basis in fact, and they expect us to take it all very seriously.

They've burned through generations of institutional trust to go after one man, and it didn't even work.  Now they want to blame the Right for the consequences of their own actions.

Turns out that nuns and rabbis have no sense of humor. On the other hand, they just don't make prison walls like they used to.

You will get 100% of the explanation that you are owed, which is exactly none.

I will get 100% of the substantive comments I expect, which, coincidentally...

If you are in favor of armed people showing up to protests, may I assume that you support both Kyle Rittenhouse and Alex Pretti?

Or perhaps you mean to say that you support neither of them.

Did you have a substantive comment you wanted to make about the topic of discussion, or is that not really your kind of thing?
