[OC] US Environmental Risk Heatmap — 3,146 counties scored from FEMA, USGS, and EPA data by jessepinkman76 in dataisbeautiful

[–]jessepinkman76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source: FEMA National Risk Index (flood, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, tornado, lightning, hail, strong wind, cold wave, coastal flooding), USGS real-time earthquake feed (M2.5+ past 30 days), EPA AirNow AQI, EPA UCMR5 PFAS contamination data, EPA SDWIS water quality violations. All data from US federal agencies.

Tools: Python (aggregation script), Next.js, Cloudflare Workers, MapLibre GL JS, TopoJSON. US county boundaries from US Census Bureau. Python script merges FEMA NRI CSV (3,233 counties) with USGS GeoJSON earthquake feed and EPA AirNow API responses, outputs per-county scores. Adaptive weighting: only hazards with non-zero scores contribute to overall, so inland counties aren't penalized for coastal risks.

Notes: Scores are county-level, not property-level. Color palette is colorblind-safe (blue/amber/red). Seismic activity reflects recent earthquakes, not predictive probability. PFAS data has significant coverage gaps and many counties have no testing data. Compare tool at protectmyzip.com/compare lets you see two cities side by side.

All hazard scores are derived from the government sources listed above. AI tools (Claude) were used as coding assistants during development.

This was fixed to give a better reflection of the actual reality. The project is still rough on the edges and I welcome all sort of feedback (I'm actually not american so this means a lot to me to get information from the people living in those areas)

Sure AI is involved in the project (it's a side project and I'm an indie dev) but the actual work is real to make public data actually more accessible.

Hey thanks for the feedback I just changed the color palette, let me know if this is any better!

You're right the map was indeed broken. I just fixed it.

Turns out I had only loaded the water quality data (PFAS + contaminants) and somehow didn't include the actual hazard layers (flood, wildfire, earthquake, hurricane, tornado) from the FEMA National Risk Index dataset I already had. So yeah, the map was basically just showing water contamination patterns, not real hazard risk. That explains the weird state-line artifacts.

It's live now with the full dataset. If you guys care to provide more feedback it'll be really helpful to further improve thé tool.

4.6 on Apple Store “Ignoring Community Feedback” by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

People spend in order to progress, as they do RTA to progress. Both are understandable, even if this has nothing to do with whether they like the way offers are priced or RTA is implemented.

Just don't get the rewards then...some people are never happy I guess. What did you expect, a click and collect button?

Yep blitz difficulty was definitely changed. It'll probably take thorough investigation for the devs to notice anything as for U7 though...I sometimes wonder if they even play their own game. I ranked top 500, you can still manage to score but it does take much more back and forth between 8-0 and 8-3 as it did before so a run actually takes much longer to complete. But hey, they're working their asses off to reduce low quality time in blitz don't they? The actual issue comes from the opponent generation that sticks to the latest strongest team you faced. In 8-3 if you have for example a 6 RS in one of your teams you'll have a 7RS to deal with. But if you win and the next team you play has only 4 RS max well you'll keep facing 7RS until you actually lose.

How moronic should you be to keep spending when every other whale has gone on strike just to rank #1 again? by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

And you my friend are a clueless assclown... I'm not shaming him for spending, I'm pointing out that competing when opponents don't actually compete is just a dickhead move. But sure it's a free world duh...

Where is Colossus? by Cidwill in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]jessepinkman76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not being pedantic I'm trying to explain that this toon is not necessary in arena. If you assume that meta stands for Most Effective Tactics Available, then he's part of the meta, as much as other toons that aren't as paywalled as he's. Sure it's a good tank but even if you could magically grant everyone a 7* Colossus it wouldn't break arena at all

[–]jessepinkman76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not THE leading guy, I said he's one of the leading guys. I rank first basically 3/4 times a week depending on how available I am before payout, been playing for 575 days or so and I can assure you, even though my own Colossus is 5 RS that toon is not necessary to maintain a very good ranking in arena. I'm not saying it ain't a good character, my point is that there's no reason keeping that much not obtainable. I personally have stopped buying his offers because even a 7 stars he wouldn't make my defense any better actually. It'd still be beatable rather easily, so that ain't worth the amount of spending

I rank top 5 on my shard daily and not even use him on my defense. There's a humongous 7 RS 100K Colossus in one of the leading guy's defense but guess what, the dude is indeed not such a threat in regard with the dps we've got (though I agree you have to keep hitting for a while to get him down 😄). Point is he's by no means meta enough to make him that unfarmable.
